You can tell how intense of a Prusa upgrade you’re in for based on how big the bag of gummy bears is. 🫣
An open cardboard box with some 3D printer upgrade components inside. There is a large bag of gummy bears included. A hand holds a small bag of gummy bears for comparison.

Pretty sure this is where my career is going in not too many more years. I have both cynical takes and optimistic takes. Both sets are largely memes, ngl. #millennial #lifeismemes #software #ai #llm

It’s easy for me not to buy a digital game on principle when I haven’t jived with the series in two decades. But it makes me sad that enough people don’t share my opinion here to convey that this isn’t okay. Staring down games I DO want that only have key-card releases… I’m part of the problem.

I’ve gotten 3 or 4 spam emails about my new Chrome extension… so I guess that means it passed review and is available now? 😅 No email from Google either way, but I’m sure the spammers can’t watch for in-review extensions, right?

Trying to balance out being too modern by listening to Styx; but they come along with a LASER ETCHED vinyl. Art microscopically engraved on the surface. What magic is this?! #vinyl #music #technology #lasers
A vinyl record on a turntable, showing rainbow reflections more characteristic of CDs than vinyl records. Behind the turntable is the slip folder for Styx”s album “Paradise” showing an ornate illustrated old-timey theater entrance, fitted with the latest in electric light technology.Close-up of a laser-etched vinyl record revealing visible swirl patterns along the edge, reflecting prism rainbows like a CD. Vinyl records don’t usually do this. Holy cow.

So the thing about AI is that it’s a probability machine. All of LLM is just a statistical regurgitation of whatever it was trained on. Things like prompts will certainly sway it more towards certain kinds of responses; but the training data determines what it’s capable or outputting.

Y'know, I'd been considering grabbing this game right up until someone compared it to Outer Wilds. I really did not get on with the repetitive parts of that game. Bored me too much, made me too motion sick, and at some point I just gave up trying to be interested in it. So I dunno, maybe I'll pass.

hasan piker got banned from twitch for saying that if republicans were serious about fraud, they'd "kill rick scott," a senator who oversaw the largest healthcare fraud in US history. content creators feasted on the "kill" part, as opposed to the part that matters aftermath.site/hasan-piker-...
Also, more importantly, the streamer drama portion of this story barely matters! The problem Piker pointed to during the stream that got him suspended – a former CEO of a healthcare company that copped a record $1.7 billion in fines going on to dodge material consequences, walk away with $10 million in severance and $300 million in stock options, and become a US senator – is an issue of so much more consequence than Piker's word choice that these things are not remotely comparable. It is deranged that millions of people are getting their news from creators who act like a damn Twitch streamer using harsh language to state documented facts is where this story starts and ends, rather than in the halls of actual power.

We’re all being robbed. It’s as clear as day. There was an (alleged) murder about it, and many people sided with the (alleged) murderer. Think about why political pundits and content creators might now be incentivized to muddy the waters, especially where healthcare is concerned. Think about how they might stand to benefit from your distraction, even as normal people’s material circumstances degrade by the day. Think about how platforms make themselves complicit by algorithmically incentivizing outrage and drama-of-the-day dogpiles over discussion that threatens the status quo. Anybody who frames this conflict in any other way – who suggests different stakes or a different central cast of characters – is either deeply unserious or outright lying to you. Do not listen to them. Odds are, they’re trying to rob you too.

When United Fruit Company workers were bulldozing the Costa Rican jungle, they began finding these enigmatic spherical stones ("petrospheres") made of 'gabbro', a basaltic stone. Thinking they might contain treasure, workers tried drilling or blowing them up. Let's talk about the 'Diquís Spheres'.
"Some of the stone spheres found in Finca 6 in the care of the National Museum of Costa Rica" It's just giant round stone spheres of varying size, but all quite large, lying on a well-manicured green grass area. They're grey with deep pitting. In the background are some people in tropical attire, and a dense wooded area.

during the same night, three big twitch streamers were attacked by a stalker while, in a totally separate instance, another was robbed at gunpoint. now streamers are reckoning with the very real impacts of sexism, as well as a need for increased security aftermath.site/valkyrae-cin...
During a follow up broadcast today, Hoffstetter and Watts, still visibly shaken up, told viewers more about what happened before and after the stream clip that went viral, noting that they had to “hide in a shed for 15 minutes until cops came” after receiving what they felt was insufficient aid from workers at Santa Monica Pier (though Watts added that she didn’t think it was workers’ fault). The two also asked viewers to provide any additional details they might have to help identify the man. They went on to defend themselves against online suggestions that the situation wasn’t particularly serious because the man didn’t seem to have a weapon, which is a totally fucked thing to even need to do when there is clear video footage of somebody trying to assault you.

“He put his stuff on the ground to fistfight Emily,” said Hoffstetter during today’s stream.

“I am in hindsight very thankful that we were in the area that we were and that we were able to go into the store, because I think if we had been anywhere else on the pier, it would have been a very different situation,” said Watts. “Please take this stuff very seriously. It can happen to anybody if you’re male or female, but if you ask any girl streamer, they all have stories.”

yes. love it. do this.
from the r/fednews subreddit, reactions to how they should reply to phony stark’s email to federal workers telling them to detail what they did last week

If you end up replying don't give them an opportunity to evaluate your performance based on the reply:
This week I accomplished:
• 100% of the tasks and duties required of me by my position description
• 100% of the work product that my manager and I have agreed to
• 100% of the duties and performance elements that are used to evaluate my performance
• 100% of the deliverables requested of me by my direct supervisor.
• I exceeded expectations in the delivery of the above
Details available upon a formal request from my direct supervisor.

this is good enough to confuse the Al they're going to use to analyze 2.4 million emails. A human might understand it's a troll, a computer will just say this person did well.
