As someone from tech, this will not work. You're fingerprinted not only on visual patterns (color, location of dents), but also on your whole electronics signature - tire pressure monitoring systems, hotspots, Bluetooth emissions, Wi-Fi Mac addresses, air tags...

One thing that’s so frustrating living in a city center is the pervasive belief among suburbanites that your neighborhood is nothing more than a consumer experience for them and that the city should bend over backwards to ensure they can speed as fast as possible on their way to buy treats in it.

This is also why you can still walk outside every day and go to work with everything appearing mostly "normal" and you meet people in your day to day who have no idea four neighborhoods were tear gassed last week and you feel completely fucking insane over it all

Blue cities should tear up the roads in front of ICE facilities and then start decades of community engagement and input sessions to rebuild them. Let's harness our core competencies.

www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/f... Restaurant sued over toddler’s death caused by woman in car. Finally. Of course they had bollards around the poles and utility boxes, just not around the places to protect people. US infrastructure in a nutshell.

When suburban type tells you the area is bike friendly, it means: - 2 trails along the mosquito river - a trail along the high-voltage right of way - former railway tracks in the mountains, beware of bears and cougars - 500ft of protected bike line downtown ending in an industrial woodchipper

Pedestrians, transit users and cyclists will no longer give their own lives and health up to support shorter journey times for frustrated suburban car commuters. Correspondence circulated to the Mayor and Council yesterday docs.google.com/document/d/1...

TBH I feel a bit defeated: At that meeting I brought up feeling unsafe & asked about protected bike lanes. I was promptly shut down: “Our roads are too narrow.” I was also visibly pregnant, mind you. 😬 I guess I’m looking for advice on how to overcome that mentality above ^

Dismantling the legal and regulatory frameworks that hollowed out cities, transferred wealth to the suburbs, and then made it financially prohibitive to return is one of the great projects of urbanism.

For folks who've been playing along for a while, the vanguard for the end of rule of law have been American drivers, who realized about a ~ decade ago that they could maim and kill people with no repercussions. Our current bout of fascism is just a mild expansion of that ethical/legal framework.

Living near roads raises dementia risk, while green spaces help protect brain. Air pollution, noise, and walkability impact cognitive decline.

100 years ago tomorrow. New York Times, November 23, 1924: “The automobile looms up as a far more destructive piece of mechanism than the machine gun. The reckless motorist deals more death than the artilleryman. … Immediate action [is necessary] to halt the homicidal orgy of the automobile.”
