Yesterday, 9th September, was FASD Day 💙🧠💙

FASD Day is an important day to raise awareness and understanding of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and to help people understand that FASD is a lifelong neurodevelopmental condition.

As someone with lived experience of FASD and as a FASD Advocate, I believe it is so important to speak up, challenge stigma and misunderstanding, support individuals and families, and help create a more inclusive world. 💙

And also, as someone with lived experience, FASD can be challenging, but I try to do as much as I can to live with my FASD by trying not to let it defeat me.

FASD can affect people in many different ways, and every person with FASD is unique. We need understanding, support and acceptance — not judgement.

I will continue using my voice and my lived experience to raise awareness, educate others and help create brighter futures for people with FASD. 🌟💙

FASD matters. Lived experience matters. Every voice matters. 💙

FASD isn’t a visible physical disability—it’s a hidden one caused by prenatal alcohol exposure. While some effects can be physical, most symptoms can’t be seen. Understanding FASD means recognising the challenges that aren’t immediately visible. #HiddenDisability #FASD
Did you know FASD is not a physical disability? It is actually a hidden disability that you cannot see, and it is not visible to the eye. Furthermore, FASD can cause a range of conditions, and this is caused by prenatal alcohol exposure; some of which are physical and can be visible to the eye. Image of Shane featuring quote text reading: “Across Ireland and the UK, it seems almost everyone drinks at almost everything. Unfortunately, it’s what we’re known for.

For me, the decision to not drink which began in Ireland genuinely made me feel as though I was rejecting my home and culture.”

What is FASD? Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) can occur if alcohol is consumed during pregnancy. Alcohol passes through the placenta and can harm a baby’s developing brain and body, causing lifelong disabilities. No amount is known to be safe. Spread awareness and support prevention efforts.!
* Okay, reminder about what FASD is. Well, let me answer that question for you: what is FASD?
Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder occurs if alcohol is consumed during pregnancy. You risk causing harm to your baby. Moreover, this can sometimes result in mental and physical problems in the baby. This condition is called Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).
* Basically, FASD can happen when alcohol in the mother’s blood passes to her baby through the placenta. What this means is that your baby cannot process alcohol well. This means it can stay in their body for a long time. However, the alcohol damages their brain and body, and it will stop them from developing normally in the womb. This can also result in the loss of the pregnancy. Furthermore, the babies who survive may be left with lifelong problems.
