It's the final round of the County, and Kent are in serious danger of being promoted. Trade off one moment of joy for a whole next season of pain? Hampshire are down - next year sees SJA in Soton? Meanwhile, Somerset will do their annual re-enactment of Charlie Brown and Lucy with the football.

I am now very concerned that Kent may actually be promoted to Div 1 in the CC. That would be much less fun than this season has been

Approximate size (depending on how you’re viewing this) of a black hole with the same mass as the Earth. Formation mechanisms that could produce such a small black hole are purely hypothetical.

It is now looking more and more likely that Kent will be promoted to Div 1 of the Championship. The mentality has been really impressive this season, certainly compared to last. I just don't believe they currently have the skills to do much up the divisions.

It's one of those Bank Holiday Weekend mornings where, across the country, loads of County Cricket fans can be heard muttering "Well, not even <my team> can lose it from here". Except for Gloucestershire.

I want these to drill down even more. With whom would you like to have a Boots meal deal? Which potential PM would be the best partner for cycling around Belgium? Trout fishing? Salmon? If you were opening the batting (red ball) with a party leader, which one would it be? If you were waxing your anu

Very happy but a bit confused by Kent appearing to be a vaguely competent red ball cricket team.

Really loved that Milnes bowling du Plooy wicket, for the stumps flying, for the celebrations, and for Milnes getting a deserved wicket. Still think Kent's position in the table massively overstates how good a team they are.

I don't watch that much of the Hundred - it's just not my thing - but the few women's matches I've seen this year have been very disappointing. When there's been good play - and there's been much less than, eg, the T20WC had - the match has been so one sided. Close matches have been due to poor play

Pinhole colander Vs spotting scope.
Early in the partial eclipse, many sources on a black writing slope using the pinhole colander approach.About five minutes before peak eclipse, using a scope projecting onto white paper.

I had been thinking that Kapp looked like the grumpy first teamer making up the numbers in a thirds reserves warm up friendly, but didn't even then expect the farce that the end of this innings is turning into.

Another Ashes match in Southampton in 2027 - hope it's as good as the last one we saw. Slightly annoying that the Canterbury match against Bangladesh is timed so it will be impossible to get to.

Thinking about Knight's career, I think there's a comparison to be made to Joe Root's, in terms of both batting and captaincy. Both will be very difficult to replace.

It feels that, from the toss onwards, Australia have had every piece of luck going. Strangely, this always seems to happen when one team is absolutely dominant, has the best players, plans well, plays to the plans, and is just so much better than all possible opposition. #T20WorldCup

It feels that Australia have already hit more boundaries in the first 4 overs than England had in the first 12. The bowlers are having to attack so can't bowl to a tight field in the way the Australians did: it's already looking like a procession. #T20WorldCup

After Bell's excellent first couple of balls I thought "yes, but we really need a wicket". Does getting Voll make up for the disaster of that no-ball+free hit debacle? Well, maybe, if the wickets continue to fall.

Well, it's possible (Lords, so...) that this pitch is an unplayable shitheap, but more likely is that Australian excellence has restricted the English score to something that's at least 30 below what is needed. A superb performance in the field is going to be needed to put pressure on. #T20WorldCup

Don't review Heather, that was stone dead. Oh, you've reviewed anyway. Maybe there's an edge? No, you missed it by miles. Impact is middle and leg; can't see this going down. No, and you lost it. Bad, bad review. This is four(ish) overs too soon to bring the hitters in - bit trouble. #T20WorldCup

Jimmy Anderson holds the joint record for playing Tests under most different Prime Ministers - 8, alongside Sachin Tendulkar and Sarfaraz Ahmed. Now the UK will shortly have a new PM, we call on the selectors to bring Jimmy out of retirement for one match to enable him to take the record outright.

If this pitch is as poor as it looks for fast bowling - and recent Lords pitches have found oh so many ways to be poor that I'm not making predictions - then I wonder how much Kemp and particularly Gibson are really going to get to do today. #T20WorldCup

A very good review. Almost a repeat of the one that got Brooks yesterday. I can see a repeat of the SA match with England 3 down by the end of the power play, and that's going to really restrict the scoring rate...
