Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 19hHmmm its a secret..... But shipshaper already has a pretty beefy physics sandbox /ocean to play around in.. Things are going to be added to that ...many things 020
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 19hWho am I kidding I cannot keep this shit to myself.... I lied... #shipshaper is going all the way.. I said naval sandbox.. I mean that. 3758

Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 01/10/2026gonna be some new stuff today... Console folks.. Stay tuned... ;) 070
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Someone made a radioship.. a pirate ship! How freaking cool is that..! steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/... 1353
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 28/09/2026When' you've literally spend years fiddling with waves and oceans and wakes.. and it finally starts to look decent.. #indiedev I picked an ocean world because it meant having less assets to produce,, only to then spend a decade on a single asset. also no this won't run on a potato anymore. 912917
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Ooooh you cannot share pics of your multiplayer test cuz there is humans playing it ...lololol.. its a brave new world multiplayer.. also steam multiplayer. I understand why it took off. Takes out so much work. 060
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 27/09/2026I think the overlap between hot yetis and beardy captains is significant.. 010
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 27/09/2026But yes contextually it will be next to a list of friend avatars 110
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 27/09/2026It is "invite friend(s)" via steam multiplayer. So add captain but now just realizing that might also be to vague . Hmm 100
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 26/09/2026It is a gamepad. But It didnt get auto mapped like one for me. But maybe i did it wrong. 020
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 26/09/2026that's what it is, but that's not what they are pushing. I was really excited and basically had the port done, only to hear that using streaming/tethering wasn't going to get any badge or support. only standalone. to them streaming is the side feature.. its baffling 000
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 26/09/2026There are forces heading to mobile, with mobile audiences maturing into core gamers. And everyone wants some of that Genshin flavoured pie. So it makes sense, I don't think this is the way tho.. Failure never helps for these big products and to handicap VR to do a field trial.. hmmm 010
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 26/09/2026well the storefront in VR is now amazingly well done, so that doesn't feel the issue anymore.. as a VR experience its great.. 100
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Well i tried it and it wasnt great... Its a woefully underpowered 010
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 26/09/2026is it.. but why this push for standalone mobile ports? 210
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Indeed... Again feels like they hired some meta folks to shepherd the frame and they brought the meta coolaid with them... I mean this isnt for its existing gamer audience. Its actually de prioritizing its own audience for perhaps the first time ever. 100
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 26/09/2026yeh had a chat with someone on their team and its killed all enthousiasm to bring back Falconeer VR for the remaster, there simply aren't any visibility or reward for doing so. Shit If I wanted to make mobile ports, I'd not be on steam.. 110
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 26/09/2026The stand alone performance is worst than the quest. So I dont think its something they should have gone for. It just drives up the price for a feature steamVR audiences arent there for. 110
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Well and devs cannot get a "great on Frame " badge by supporting PCVR that's only for mobile port Standalone and low spec flat games. Guess they hired some Meta folks, and all got into the stand alone deream. for an audience that's already mostly put their quests with the other xmas gifts of yore. 110
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 25/09/2026I am mostly using to add contrast and highlight to otherwise fairly flat scenes.. it's fairly light 10-5% fps drop at most.. 030
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 25/09/2026I had this as a fully depth buffer /screenspace lighting pass of a splatmap as well. But then the depthbuffer had no smoothing and all the lights looked washed out a bit 100
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 25/09/2026no tis basically a splat map of lights , at different height bands , added to the material shader.. I did have some directionality to the lights, but it required additional directional maps, and actually it looked better as just light probes basically. more stylized. 120
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 25/09/2026basically it's a set of 2D splat maps of the lights, each at different height bands (cuz its a city that works) 110
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 24/09/2026no its not gigalights.. its some borked up system of the same idea.. not super optimized 020
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Hmmmm I fixed up The Falconeer Remaster's (yes it got remastered) lights system. Into one of those fancy infinite light solution (calculation lights against the depthbuffer in one go)... kinda fancy.....still lots of artefacts..ray tracing it is not 4301

Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 23/09/2026You can never take its slow., you can never reveal work in progress. lest it be cloned. You gotta stay up with the goalposts, ahead of the pack.. And I know that's not the reality. But it's the fear. and fear is enough. Fear is making me work at a mad pace, before this industry is gone too. 040
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Sure we are all gonna adapt and put our fenceposts where we can both survive and feel comfortable/creative.. But it won't be by choice.. Its cuz we have to.. to stay up with this new goalposts.. 141
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 23/09/2026yeh.. the thing is I don't mind AI doing my taxes, curing my cancer or whatever useful tedious thing . Even AI coding. Sure whatever.. But it's the finality of it, like you say, it destroys industries. Entire crafts.. you cannot have a little, no you gotta eat the entire pie. 151
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Well there's always this idea at the back of my head,, Games are different, more complex, hard to model human behaviors. And its true... but not true enough Anyways.. just breeds anxiety. I mean some of this stuff is useful to many, but once you're in,, you can never leave.. 151
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 23/09/2026yeh.. though I think the personal effort of creative people is boundless and it won't be broken, just moves the goalposts.. I am thinking more of ownership and rent-taking over other people's work. Look at Roblox nobody wants to be in that place. AI is that place but worst... much worst 110
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 23/09/2026The stuff we cannot see and know.. The ownership, the dependency that inate slop nature of our landscape that is going to be everywhere.. I dunno.. It does make me anxious.. 150
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 23/09/2026ooh yeh for sure.. I was just writing that comment lol. But the video says it generated the 3D art as well, which was a shock to me. But people will use this, and most will fail and some will succeed.. I honestly don't worry about that too much. But the long term price.. that worries me. 350
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 23/09/2026It scares me, but also I can see it's just re-creating various unity or unreal tutorials. patterns that exist and can just be grappled of the internet. There isn't an original thing in here.. But it looks competent in ways it hasn't before. But there is a pricetag.. one we don't even know. 0100
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 23/09/2026The Question with LLM isn't "How far can it go" But : "What will you pay in exchange for it ?" And if you cannot pay then : "What are you willing to give up for it ?" We can say holy shit, but somewhere someplace someone is going to get their 30% and it's not you or I.youtube.comNEW Opus 5.5 is INSANE For Building Video Games (Full Test)YouTube video by Brendan Jowett 4151
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Finally had some time to finish a big desired feature. a wake system, had this figured out ever since #thefalconeer, but never got around to it. Basically a top down render, drawing out the ship's profile,. then using that 2000s ripple javascript effect basically to displace the ocean #gamedev 1542
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Besides Some Barbary whipping going on and animated oars.. Shipsahper is getting itself some of that fancy wake displacment... 050
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 23/09/2026"yooohoo I think I am getting a blister" #shipshaper 3160

Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 22/09/2026I suspect so too, But like every major change, being stuck in it is the least fun bit. 010
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 22/09/2026But man is it making things harder. Feels like some sort of arms race. To be honest it might be the end of the traditional experimental indie eco system. Dont put your game on itch , dont put it out there.. hide it. Such a poor prospect. Dreadfully poor. 2180
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Now as always my advice and solution is still: Built an ouvre and identity. Own your audience Make series and Franchises, own being the named original. Classic marketing really. 1100
Tomas Sala @falconeerdev.bsky.social · 22/09/2026This also wrecks the pathway to success based on early validation.. what we learned about using showcases and socials to investigate if our games stand out. Now that's a risk and liability. 130
