To complement these findings, we conducted qualitative interviews with biomedical postdoctoral fellows who participated in the faculty job market. Among applicants who ultimately received offers, perceived readiness was strongly influenced by support from their principal investigator.

Our analyses indicate that the strongest quantitative predictor of receiving a faculty job offer is the number of applications submitted and that there is an optimal window when you are competitive.
