Both inspiring and sobering to see Karl Jenkins conduct ‘The Armed Man: A mass for peace’ at the Royal Festival Hall. Originally conceived in the wake of the war in Kosovo, there is more conflict in the world today than when it was first written. The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est. Pro patria mori.

#FridayFeeling from the kindness of a busy practitioner who took time to send feedback about a free, online presentation I gave last month Exploring assessments and referral pathways for child #firesetting, a recording of the presentation is available via preventionhub@nationalfirechiefs.org.uk
An email that says,

“I watched your presentation a few weeks ago, which was excellent…I think the reason there were no questions is because you covered the topic thoroughly in the way that you always do, highlighting theory and research in an easy to understand and digestible format.

You also did a fantastic job of highlighting the lack of standardised assessment, whilst recognising that practitioners assess risk through the information that they gather via referrals and suggested how the process could be improved.

I also like that you touched on Adult firesetting and signposted to appropriate support.

It was extremely well attended, considering it was summer holidays and extremely hot. It's due to your reputation!”

Walking home I passed a homeless man. I had no change but asked if he wanted an unopened flapjack in my bag. He accepted and I wished him good luck as I continued on. He replied, “I have good luck because I woke up this morning” How does anyone have such gratitude when physically at rock bottom?

“162,858 complaints sent for Dr Jason Arday: The UK media has heard you.

162,858 emails and IPSO complaints have been sent. You united to demand accountability for the role the UK media played in the death of Dr Jason Arday.

We share your anger wholeheartedly. The UK media has gone too far again by targeting a Black individual who was working in a respected field and achieving great things.

They sought to destroy his life due to a racist agenda, not because of any legitimate news story.”

#FridayFeeling from this email received from a woman within an hour of finishing #training together yesterday #ThisGirlCan
Email that reads,

“I just wanted to say thank you for the training course. I genuinely found it incredibly insightful, and it's inspired me to start looking into postgraduate courses related to working with young people.

I've always enjoyed learning and have been considering further study over the past 12-18 months. However, this course, and the opportunity to think about my work in a more theoretical way, really gave me the motivation to build on my practical experience by exploring postgraduate courses focused on child development.

Again, thank you and see you in 6 months.”
