We need to take all of the cars off the streets until the city can figure out how to regulate them safely and effectively

This is true of Washington DC in Wonder Woman 1984 as well

O Brother Where Art Thou? has a pretty prominent storyline about the race for Mississippi governor between the incumbent Pappy O'Daniel and the challenger Homer Stokes. But until the 1980s, Mississippi governors couldn't run for a second consecutive term.

I don't think it's fair to say that it's my fault you used AI because I wouldn't volunteer to help you for free. What did you do before ai? Canva is a good free option. It doesn't have to be fancy, people like things that are made by people

and then you often face the dilemma of paying $20 to get back to DC on the next amtrak, or waiting 90 minutes for the marc. Not to mention the added time waiting for the shuttle between the station and the terminal. It's super disrespectful to anyone trying to get to/from the airport without a car

Was that how the B30 and 5A buses were funded? Are other bus routes funded that way? I doubt MD would want to start a new service because they'd say they already have MARC. But MARC is very difficult because the trains are few and far between, especially outside of weekday commuting hours

Can we get a metro bus that connects the BWI terminal with Greenbelt and runs, say, every 30 minutes?

Per the NYT, Florida and Mississippi are also, uh, highly represented. FL has a somewhat close governor's race this year, MS will not have a governor's race till next year. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/29/u...

ultimately DC elections need much more serious reform, but until we are allowed to fully make our own laws, we are stuck trying to do the best with the limitations we have.

Which method is better depends on how you think about different blocs of DC voters, and what you think the goals are of having 2 at large seats elected at the same time.
100
ezracycle.bsky.social @ezracycle.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
It depends on how much power you want different factions to have. Sequential lets the largest bloc pick both winners; bottom up lets the largest and second largest blocs each pick a winner. These are generalizations, it can change depending on the relative sizes of each bloc

This page is a good explanation: fairvote.org/prcv-vs-sequ.... They were proposing we switch to Sequential RCV. The problem with it is that if there's a voting bloc larger than 50% of the population, they get to pick both winners. It's more like two separate elections and they can win both

To be clear the council wanted to change it in a way that would make it even worse

ezracycle.bsky.social @ezracycle.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
It's a tricky issue because the systems that are better (more fair, lead to more representative outcomes) are also more complicated to explain and can lead to people being confused about the process. @fairvote.bsky.social has a good rundown of some of the options here: fairvote.org/prcv-vs-sequ...

It's not congressional, but I think another great under-the-radar race is Anita Early, running for re-election to the North Carolina Supreme Court. We can't win a majority this year but if she is re-elected we could win a majority in 2028 and undo some very bad gerrymandering

The theory I heard is that if he resigns before the verdict, he preserves the ability to run again in the future. If he is found guilty, he's kicked off and banned for life

I meant if he isn't convicted (or if he resigns today to avoid being permanently banned)

A good reminder that while he may or may not be found guilty of a crime, the DC Council can and should vote to expel him for his actions. He has absolutely betrayed the public trust and should not be serving in public office.

ezracycle.bsky.social @ezracycle.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
Why is it a problem that we have "all these" voter initiatives? Seems to me like we have 1 per election cycle, at most, and often 0. And if the Council doesn't like them, they can (and have!) overridden them, which isn't difficult.

Make sure to rank @elissasilverman.bsky.social as your 1st choice for At-Large Councilmember! This’ll be the first time we have a general At-Large CM election under the new rules of Initiative 83 - those who rank the Democratic nominee 1st won’t have their lower rankings tabulated:

also if you live in a city where you can get to the grocery store easily, you don't have to do a full week of shopping all at the same time!

There's something kind of depressing about GoDCGo/DDOT setting up a park(ing) day event -- which is meant to show that we can do better things with our public space than just let cars park there -- in the same exact spot where La Tejana used to have a streatery....before DDOT took it away

Dupont doesn't "need a grocery store." What it needs is for Glen's to come back.

DCA should charge more for parking. This will encourage more people to take the extremely convenient Metro to the airport while saving parking spaces for people who need them most. (they should also charge a fee to get dropped off by taxi/rideshare/private car, but that's another issue)

Besides the elevator, which is in DC, there are entrances from all four corners of Western and Wisconsin, of which the two on the south/east side of the intersection are in DC, and the two on the north/west side are in MD (I know one of the entrances in DC is currently closed)

well I meant even earlier (and to be upfront I have not gotten much further in the book than jones beach). At Oxford and in his very early work on city reform. Then he loses his job and ends up exiled in Ohio, and when he comes back, he is cynical and power hungry

I think Moses and Johnson's stories are actually totally different in the way. Johnson was absolutely power hungry and manipulative from a very young age. But Moses really did start as an idealist and evolved after some early failures

no, I don't think it should be in DC at all. Our land is too limited and valuable to be wasted on a huge stadium + parking lots that will sit empty 330+ days a year. The problems around how WMATA will get people to the stadium are one manifestation of that broader issue
040
ezracycle.bsky.social @ezracycle.bsky.social · 01/09/2026
building the stadium in DC at all is the shortsighted decision that should be revisited by @janeese4dc.bsky.social.

It is good, but not as good as making the rides frequent and reliable. Ideally we'd have all three, but the priority should be reliability over being free.

Do you know if the quilts will be on display at the fair? Or is it just where they announce the winner?
