He is not defying the Democrats. He is defying the US Congress, aka the people. A president cannot legally or constitutionally spend money however he wishes to. Congress appropriated the funding. Previous presidents signed those appropriations into law. Trump is lawless. That's the story here.

Ted Lieu graduated from Stanford with a BS degree in computer science and a BA degree in Political Science. He’s one of the very few members of Congress who knows what a matrix is, let alone how to use one. I wish we had more congress members who have science and engineering degrees.

I wish he had chosen more renewables projects but that won’t help existing fossil fuel workers and companies that represent a big chunk of GDP.

He understands how dependent the Canadian economy is on fossil fuel extraction. In the context of a now extremely hostile US former partner and a brewing Alberta secessionist debacle, Carney can’t risk sinking the economy. It’s a terrible bargain with the devil.

Senator Markey Statement on Bipartisan Permitting Reform Proposal
Washington (October 1, 2026) – Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, issued the following statement following the release of a bipartisan permitting reform proposal.

“I’m never going to ignore that Trump’s attacks on American-made clean energy fueled the energy crisis we’re in now—not to mention his boosterism of power-hungry data centers—all of which have been enabled by Republicans in Congress. The Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill and the Trump administration’s illegal actions to block clean energy projects and rescind grants have killed tens of thousands of megawatts of clean power, stopped creation of union jobs, raised costs for families at home and on the road, and dumped pollution in communities across the country. Data center developers are hijacking our energy grid and using ratepayers to subsidize their profit-making operations, while also polluting air and

Line graph time series of global land mean surface temperature anomalies for each June-August period from 1850 through 2026. There is a long-term increasing trend and large year-to-year variability. Thanks for clarifying. I need to read up on what the latest methods for heat rejection for large datacenters & how water intensive they are. At the end of the day essentially all the input energy is converted to heat that must be moved and dumped. With GW scale datacenters that’s a lot of heat.

I get closed loop to move the heat away from racks, but somewhere outside the building the heat is being transferred to water, air or the ground. I assumed that this was evaporative (water). Is that not the case? What is being used?

I just realized that I gave you incomplete info. Not all compression is bad for your nose case — what you want to avoid is *lossy* compression. There are lossless audio compression algorithms which can reconstruct the original perfectly and those are fine to use. Example: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FLAC

It might well have been better than some of the players out there at the time but thats a pretty low bar. Sure, it works (mostly) but if your objective is to get archival quality data, see if you can find a better deck. Any old school audiophile should be able to help you out.
