A bunch of little tips that live together under the header of 'you probably don't realise that these words aren't necessary.' Stuff like dialogue tags when the tag's value is included in the dialogue. Or mentioning time, urgency and sequencing when the narrative flow does that alone ☺️

Talyn closed her eyes and nodded her head slowly, as if this was a wistful memory. “This shall make our fourth Girls’ Night on Ring City, making it our most common destination for revelry in the entire Forge.”
Frowning, Elm counted off on her fingers. And realising, Talyn cast her a disapproving shake of the head.
“Of course, you still do not remember the third time, Elm. I had to carry you home, so I remember it very clearly.”
“U-Uh, thanks Tal.”
“This sounds very exciting.”
At once, Elm’s mood soured. She breathed out a hot breath through her nose as she leaned around Sera and Talyn to set her sights on their prisoner, who was peeking out of medical with a stupid smile on his dumb face.
“Moron,” she told him. “The clue is in the name. You aren’t fucking invited.”
“A-Ah, right. I did guess that much.” Marcus laughed. “That makes sense. I hope you have a good night out.”
“Any time away from you is good,” she grumbled.
“I’m just checking, though. I’ll be staying here that night, and I’ll be… by myself?”
Elm frowned at him, uncomprehending for a moment. Then, her heart sank.
“You did not consider that one of us would have to remain on guard, did you?” said Talyn.
“Fuck.” Elm gritted her sharp teeth, then pointed a finger at Marcus. “You spoil everything, don’t you?”

But hidden among the smoggy clouds and burning mountains, tucked away in the dark of the night’s shadow, was a thin strip of brilliant, neon starshine. That strip was the only place on the whole world that was safe from the cataclysmic flare of the sun Corona. Sera had told Marcus that Ring City itself was a tightly bustling urban jungle, rife with parties and cheap food. An unending celebration of life, here on the very edge of demise. The residents and visitors both knew that someday, perhaps in a thousand cycles or perhaps ten million, the rotation of the planet would shift enough to destroy the urban strip and turn all their accomplishments to char on the solar winds. Even so, the people came. Perhaps because of that understanding, it made their joyous cries into the void sound all the more resonant.

It was childish of her, she knew that. But Sera did so like to win. She made an attempt at calming herself down but needlessly, as Neu stood to his feet with a wide smile and a demure round of applause. He came around the unit towards her.
“Well done!” he said. “I can hardly believe it, but well done! You must have…”
Drawing close, he leaned around the divider and examined her win-state. Sera could smell the minty shampoo he used in his gorgeous locks.
“Oh, you little devil!” he laughed. “You were right beside me the whole time! Very sneaky!”
Sera felt herself blushing, and the rushing warmth of the heavy effects of her drink. She rested herself down into a seat on the tabletop of the unit, and Neu came to a seat beside her. Close. He liked to be close, her Neu.

“Oh, I think it is! If I don’t hear how Marcus has been treating you between the sheets, I think I might just die!”
A feline technician happened to be walking by at that moment, and she turned curiously to eavesdrop until she passed them by. Rune blushed fiercely.
“Y-You already know all about that.”
“Do I? Let’s find out.” Therese’s tentacle reached around, tugging Rune closer beside her, and the tip tapped on the glass of the wine bottle with a pleasantly full thunk. “Drink that, and then tell me there’s nothing left for me to discover.”
“A-All of it?”
“Half of it. And who knows.” Therese nuzzled Rune’s hair playfully. “Maybe once I’m properly lubricated with the other half, I’ll let you tease me a bit, too.”
This time, more people were passing by, and they all turned to listen.

“What’s prime time the cycle after our arrival looking like?”
“Prime time for plus-four?” he sighed. “Busier than the palace on Almsday. You expecting a delay?”
“No, no. We’ll be there. What about first shift for that cycle?”
“Urgh, you’d give up prime time for a firstie?”
“Humour me.”
Ari hummed. “It’s open. You can have it, if you like.”
“And a discount for freeing up a prime?”
“Don’t push it. Shall I book you in?”
Elm didn’t have to think it through. “Do it.”
“Alright, then. I’ll be seeing you in four cycles, first thing on the first shift.”
“See you then, Ari.” With the connection ended, Elm pulled free her headphones and tossed them onto the dashboard.
