what is it called ulysses syndrome but with added layer of being scared for having to move back to the country of birth and thus already griefing the life i imagined myself to have in the new country?

someone do explain to me how come the most British face that ever walked the Earth, Edward Holcroft, plays a Polish/Polish-heritage man on #Industry? Can't HBO do better? there are Polish, Eastern European and surely half-Polish actors out there. just as there are half-Polish writers.

it's the classic immigrant limbo, where i'm unhappy in both places. been here in the UK for over 10.5 years, over 1/3 of my life, my entire adulthood. but i am beginning to listen to Polish music again and am filled with tsunami waves of nostalgia. Polish is such a beautiful expressive language.

Ewa Ferdynus @ewaferdynus.com · 05/01/2026

back here cause twitter algo hates me. how my fellow immigrant artists manage to navigate the feeling of not wanting to move back to the birth country but also missing birth country? like i hate some aspects of Poland (the gov, mentality of elderly people etc.) but miss it incredibly (culture).

it’s pure ignorance. i wonder do these writers have international friends? Polish friend? Romanian friend? like it’s unbelievable how non-existent Eastern Europeans are on the UK screen. + ofc our Southern Europeans like Italians, Spanish, Greek and Portugese also suffer from similar discrimination

Ewa Ferdynus @ewaferdynus.com · 24/09/2025

i have been saying this in the regards to the UK film and tv industry and the absolute lack of representation. it’s beginning to really upset me because it’s like 99% of writers in this country don’t think about immigrants who are everywhere. everyone in London has a different accent.

110

Ewa Ferdynus @ewaferdynus.com · 23/09/2025

silly of me to have wanted to devote my life and career to the british film and tv industry. god forbid an immigrant wanted to be a part of global film industry machinery. lol.

Keir Starmer’s spokesperson asked for the PM's response to Nigel Farage’s plan to deport hundreds of thousands of people living and working completely legally in the UK, replies that he thinks it is “unworkable” and “unfunded”. So his objection is that they’ve got their sums wrong

We need to show more solidarity towards these charities and lawyers. We cannot push enough people under the bus, to make nazis shut up. What shuts them up is showing them that we are the majority that they don't recognize because of our superficial differences.

yes & be more efficient in fixing problems in social housing. there is a story about a woman im Brighton who reported a worrying ceiling, the council said nah it was fine, and shortly after the ceiling fell down. 🫠

or they could just not discriminate people based on *past* rent issues if proven that they can afford it (let's say someone had lost a job but now has another steady income) or don't discriminate people on benefits ;_;. just if people can prove they can afford rent, let them rent ;_;.

Ewa Ferdynus @ewaferdynus.com · 20/09/2025

The new Renters Bill needs to ban landlords from requiring a guarantor. I'm (almost) a 30yo with over 10 years of renting experience, a grown-ass woman who can prove her salary... requiring a guarantor is a straight up discrimination on class and racism/xenophobic grounds.

sold!!! i made it for myself after a break up (a second cardigan i have ever done; the first one is with my ex) and unsure how i feel about it but the truth is it was too big for me and i needed money so…

Ewa Ferdynus @ewaferdynus.com · 17/09/2025

i also saw today a well-known company (Treatwell) looking for freelance photographers to photograph treatment places… for £65 a session. that’s beyond offensive.

Ewa Ferdynus @ewaferdynus.com · 17/09/2025

i keep seeing job offers for like 27-30K in London. i understand some companies can’t afford more but i’m saying the system is broken. nobody can have a life on 30K in London unless living with family or getting financial help from the bank of daddy and mommy. everyone else has to rent in HMOs.

110

Ewa Ferdynus @ewaferdynus.com · 17/09/2025

people with proper jobs, mid-career not even entry level, have to freelance or otherwise look for second jobs. it’s not just Gen Z/Millennials. my dad is paid (barely) national minimum as a post office driver in Poland + has to work as a taxi driver in spare time. And my mom also works a normal job.

100

Ewa Ferdynus @ewaferdynus.com · 17/09/2025

a thought: minimum wage should allow people for basics like: a safe house (not sharing an HMO); healthy food; bills; some savings. the idea that minimum wage doesn’t allow for that + (in theory) the maximum no of hours one can work is 48? everyone has to work 2 jobs these days to keep afloat.

4 years ago I was presenting (online, awfully stuttering) my essay idea to Laura Mulvey and then she was a second marker on one of my essays at Birkbeck. and now I had the pleasure of making season artwork for the upcoming retrospective of her work at the British Film Institute this autumn! :)

i just have this fear that my life will never get better. that i will always have to flatshare or live in damp flats. i have been outpriced from London and Brighton is a damp city. literally what am i supposed to do other than despair.

010

Ewa Ferdynus @ewaferdynus.com · 05/09/2025

i need some bluesky witch, a tarot reader, generally someone older to tell me that my life will be okay.

110

Ewa Ferdynus @ewaferdynus.com · 04/09/2025

i need an immigrant older than 30yo to tell me than it does get better. cause after 10 years of working my ass off and barely being able to afford rental of a small (damp) studio in Brighton with 0 prospects to ever afford mortgage is getting to me. mental health is at all time bad.

it’s acrylic yarn so it doesn’t shrink, it stretched a bit with some wear and wash over 2 years and i think it’s its final shape but i can’t turn back time so someone else might look much better in it than i. it needs a wider bodytype to showcase beautiful ghibli characters :)

Ewa Ferdynus @ewaferdynus.com · 19/07/2025

moving out to Brighton soon and turns out a mattress or a sofa bed are expensive purchases so i am once again offering someone to buy it because i don’t wear it enough. it deserves to be worn. it’s probably a good XL size, i’m normally an M and it’s too oversize on me. took me 2 months to make.

academic of bluesky, apropos of nothing anyone knows of any good research/book on immigration; diaspora and (lack of substantial) support network and its impact on mental health. there is a few research pieces on Asian international students but is there anything beyond that?

010

Ewa Ferdynus @ewaferdynus.com · 11/06/2025

unless i misunderstood the trailer and imdb cast. i mean i will be watching cause my crushes sonoya mizuno, will sharpe, michael zegen, adèle exarchopoulos are in the cast but i am so tired of having no eastern europeans on screen despite how many of us are in London.

150

Ewa Ferdynus @ewaferdynus.com · 11/06/2025

not a single Polish actor in Lena Dunham’s TOO MUCH imdb cast list. Polish being 1st most spoken foreign language in the UK xD People from India, Poland and Romania being the largest minorities in London. but they got Adèle Exarchopoulos because French accent >> Eastern European accent.

kind of just endlessly sad and grieving that there are so few voices in the public sphere making the basic principled argument that immigration is an affirmative good in every way and the best way for this country to serve humanity is to welcome people who want or need to leave their homes
