Out of all of Reach PLCs terrible regional "news" sites, they close the only one that ever actually cited me rather than just nicking a story (Galway Beo).

The last pub in Dublin where my most recent visit was under 18 (by three weeks). New names, new owner, and over two decades between visits. It isn't great.

The 1% figure for Dublin is accurate in so far as that many licences remain. It doesn't reflect closures being masked by new hotels and restaurants using pub licences for an easier life - and a handful of new pubs. About 15% of pubs in Dublin have closed over this time www.rte.ie/news/ireland...

Quarter of Irish pubs have closed since 2005 - study
A new report shows a rapid decline in the number of pubs in Ireland, with 2,205 premises - or one-in-four - closing their doors since 2005.

Who would have thought the last remnants of the three pubs in Dun Laoghaire Shopping Centre would be the door down to the basement nightclub. The door to the lift to the upstairs bar, the last to close by many years, is now an ice cream shop

When spoons opened up initially here, their Free House tags were mostly pointless. Now with so many pubs having an all bar one tap Heineken, Diageo or C&C lineup its starting to feel like we need a term for bars that sell a range of product, without referring to rare-outside-Cork and dead pub ties
Wetherspoons The Forty Foot signage detailing it as a Free House.

The oddly named D One 5 bar in Castleknock (in D15, but the phrasing of the name is what's odd) closed on Sunday, 11 months exactly after opening. That unit is turning in to a bit of an ejector seat of a pub, with five names in the last 20 years.

Interesting piece in the Irish Times on those who live in the Phoenix Park, other than the politicians (and patients in St Marys). One of my great grandfathers was the head horticulturist and lived in Klondike Lodge when working, and a gatehouse in retirement. www.irishtimes.com/ireland/dubl...

I don't usually write up revisits unless it's been over 18 years since the last time; or I'm likely to be back. This is only almost one of those; but its such a huge difference it's worth writing up: everypubindublin.blogspot.com/2026/07/revi...

Yamamori's settlement statement over the Hoxton does not sound good. Club closing by 19/07, and this sounds like the restaurant will be moving by the end of the year. Letting chain hotels "win", even if it may be a chequebook victory, is a net negative for Dublin www.instagram.com/p/DaEDKxLkQLm
