Mostly writing about Dublin pubs, until the transport operators get accounts so I can moan at them here instead everypubindublin.blogspot.com

The last pub in Dublin where my most recent visit was under 18 (by three weeks). New names, new owner, and over two decades between visits. It isn't great.

Who would have thought the last remnants of the three pubs in Dun Laoghaire Shopping Centre would be the door down to the basement nightclub. The door to the lift to the upstairs bar, the last to close by many years, is now an ice cream shop

When spoons opened up initially here, their Free House tags were mostly pointless. Now with so many pubs having an all bar one tap Heineken, Diageo or C&C lineup its starting to feel like we need a term for bars that sell a range of product, without referring to rare-outside-Cork and dead pub ties
Wetherspoons The Forty Foot signage detailing it as a Free House.

Using Merlin to confirm what I've been hearing. It claims this is unlikely for my location at this time of year, but I've heard them in previous years

I don't remember this tap head ever being in this pub I've been drinking in for 21 years, so I'm guessing there's a very significant storeroom clear out going on

Had to check the relation, but Charles Boyle was the brother of my great great great grandfather; he died along with 7/9 of his kids. The eldest kid then ended up with a stained glass window of him upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/co...

No branded glasses in Dublins newest pub (an old pub, burnt out and reopened by the same people), but were still on the Ambush

Ambush, lads, back on; etc. The Thomas House has two Ambush taps on the same bar like conventional pubs have two Guinness taps

There is a Shelbourne sticker in this pub in Manchester. And the damage suggests enough other patrons with anti Shels animosity

There was a story of someone worried they'd lost 12k on Brewdog EFP recently, but even as a rare visitor, its the cheapest discount card I ever bought. Random free pint today. Made the entire value back in one go once on the old early morning discount for breakfast and pints for 3.

Two uncollected kegs outside Underdog. My city centre local, so to speak, closed late last year and while there is some work going on inside, it's not going to be the same no matter what opens

Bar chain known for craft beer doing really nice custom mats with Guinnesss is a little surprising, but they are really nice.

In 1972, the Sunday Independent had an unfortunately prophetic feature on fire safety in Dublin pubs and nightclubs. One of the places called out in detail put this snarky ad in the Herald a few days later. The pub burned down in 1990.

Despite very heavy rain, there's at least one Johns Eve bonfire going here. Can't see across the sea to see if there's a line along the coast, but there was last year.

7 quid for a backup copy of one of my favourite tracks, that got limited to any real release - considering inflation that's less than my previous copy cost. Or the CD version cost. Yes, I do now have three promo copies of the same song.

Guinness used to make publicans caught labelling other stouts with their labels publish apologies in the papers. This is one of the latest I've ever seen, from 1951. This pub still exists, and hasn't sold Guinness at all for ages - its been a series of craft beer bars for well over 10 years!
Apology from the Doon Hotel, 199 North King Street (now Underdog) in 1951 for selling non-Guinness stout in Guinness labelled bottles.

Ancestry's Guinness archives are a bit hard to dig through, but have some gold for pub historians - books discussing the credit worthiness of each Guinness customer pub in the 20s with full address for instance

My old workplace in the CIÉ IT&T offices is now a pile of rubble. I'm currently ticking off the pub that was right beside the offices and nobody would ever go in to - Noctors. It's definitely a bit earthy, but I don't feel in any way unsafe

Terrible court reporting made me spend far too long finding out that the apparent worst pub in County Dublin - in 1950 - was actually *Patrick* Farrelly of *Firhouse*. Most recently Mortons Firhouse Inn, now closed.
newspaper clipping calling "Peter Farrelly"s pub in "Firhill" the "worst conducted" in County Dublin. It is actually Patrick Farrelly in Firhouse.

We're used to Beamish having been sat in the market as the value proposition for stout; but I didn't realise they were doing it 97 years ago
Beamish ad from 1927 pushing it as 4d on cask as being better value than 6d bottles of an unspecified stout, presumably Guinness as ad is in the Irish Independent.
