Omigod, this is the most heartwarming story possible! Backpack (bear 89) is the son of the 2019 winner of Fat Bear Week, Holly (bear 435). In 2007, he injured his foot & a practice of riding on momma's Holly's back had a new meaning: he was mobility-restricted while it healed. So Holly moved him.

From DISCVR blog's Facebook page, a momma bear & a yearling cub on her back in the shallow water. I think the background has been swapped out, and I can't rule out some AI use there? God, Facebook has become the social media for AI slop : (

I was unfamiliar until recently with the story of Father Mychal Judge, a gay priest who became the first recorded casualty of 9/11 while administering last rites in the lobby of the North Tower. There is an effort to canonize him, which would make him the first openly gay saint in history.

Language matters. AI agents don't "go rogue." There are no "rogue" AI agents. There are simply misconfigured AI agents. When people misconfigure AI agents, providing too much tool access or bad prompts or what not, then the agents can do things that we didn't expect and don't want. That's on us.

Given all there is to worry about, my Drivers License showing up on the Dark Web had not made it onto my list of worries. My credit is frozen, so that mitigates the risk a bit. (Also, given that the SecDef's DL is available for $100, why would anyone look for me? Being a nobody is probably good.)

At a consult with a child psychiatrist (referred by hospital-based clinic for children with neurodevelopmental disorders) child went into full meltdown. Psych looked at me and said, in an exasperated voice, "Can you not control your child?" I mean, why did he think I was there?

My family is filled with people with food aversions, and I wish I'd had this book years ago. It includes practical information about how to support people with food aversions, how to adjust colors and textures and tastes to make different foods work for them, and why they need your acceptance.

This is so deeply sad. 1) Never go to the hospital alone. Never. Ask a neighbor. Someone should be with you. 2) If you or who you are with isn't getting adequate care? Leave and go elsewhere. Document it and bail. Don't suffer (or god forbid die) because things are this bad. Have a plan.

An off-the-wall question for medievalists: when the church tried to ban tourneys, were there religious consequences for the participants? Were fighters considered to be in mortal sin? Were priests available to ensure that participants who sustained mortal wounds could confess before they died?
