Godzilla Minus One had one of the most nuanced storylines of any Godzilla movie. It was a masterpiece. I can’t wait to see Takashi Yamazaki’s next project.

Japan is one of my favorite places I ever visited. I highly recommend venturing outside Tokyo. Last time I went, I stayed in a small town just outside Mount Fuji, and it had an indoor hot spring bath in most rooms.

Still thinking about that crow question from last week? The short answer: her town is next. The long answer, how he chooses her and what it costs her, is what I'm writing now. Pieces of it go to The Circle before anywhere else. evcaldwell.com/TheCircle #Booksky

I think The Fifth Season is very well written. I have a lot of respect for Jemisin for making the death of Essun’s son a core part of her arc, rather than simply using it for shock value.

I could see it becoming one of my favorites too. The Fifth Season has been on my TBR for a while, and I’m glad I finally read it. Which other books are among your favorites?

I’m excited to read the rest of the trilogy. Jemisin is absolutely an inspiration. What did you enjoy most about her writing?

The Fifth Season: The Broken Earth Trilogy @nkjemisin.bsky.social gives one of the most accurate representations of grief from death I’ve ever read. As someone with a young son, this was especially difficult to process but important to recognize. #AmReading #BookSky #Fantasy

Was waiting for you to finish this one. Glad The Girl with a Thousand Faces resonated with you. I especially liked that you touched on how effective it was to use horror as the vehicle to process forgiveness.

What would convince an ancient crow to offer his last soul bond to an untrained mage? He won't let her town be next, but using her magic will leave her visible to whatever is ravaging it. More of this world goes to The Circle first evcaldwell.com/TheCircle #Booksky #Art by @geekycleary.bsky.social

N.K. Jemisin is the first author to win the Hugo Award for Best Novel in 3 consecutive yrs for her Broken Earth series & first to win for all 3 novels in a trilogy. Recipient MacArthur Genius Grant, 2020. She was born #OTD in 1972. Happy Birthday @nkjemisin.bsky.social 🎈 #SciFi #Fantasy #BookSky
A montage portrait of science fiction author N.K. Jemisin. On the left, she appears in a close-up photo with long, dark braided hair, wearing earrings, a delicate necklace with a pendant, a deep maroon sweater, and a shimmering green scarf draped around her neck. She has a calm, confident expression and gazes directly at the camera against a softly blurred dark background. To the right are three stacked book covers of her works. Top: The Fifth Season (The Broken Earth trilogy), with a dark, textured design and metallic title. Middle: The Obelisk Gate, featuring an intricate, glowing red-and-purple circular mandala-like emblem. Bottom: The Stone Sky, showing a dramatic stormy sky with a massive floating obelisk.

The overall composition highlights the author alongside prominent covers from her award-winning Broken Earth series.

Yeah, that’s where his logic broke down a bit. He was hurting people just like him. That’s also classic flawed morality for a villain.
