Making the bakers bake a chocolate Guinness cake FOR NIGELLA is diabolical behavior on the part of the Bake Off producers.

There is much in these texts that is difficult to understand! But it has been wonderful to sit with the people of my parish and hear the diversity of perspectives that people bring to the text, even the hard parts like the story of Hagar and the binding of Isaac. There is so much grace and openness.

We started in Genesis, and have worked through the ancient stories of creation, Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, the flood, the Tower of Babel, and the lives of Abraham, Sarah, and Hagar.

I'm helping to lead my parish's first Bible study in some years using the @forwardmovement.org "Exploring the Bible" series, and it has been such a delight getting to meet with my fellow parishioners and talk about the Bible in an environment that is open to inquiry and exploration.

My problem is what one might describe as “overuse” of the part on top of the refrigerator not leaving space for extra pot roast. 😂

As we enter autumn, let this serve as your seasonal reminder that in addition to their usual cheeseburger and custard fare, Culver’s also serves a pretty good pot roast and mashed potatoes which performs adequately if you are a single person who cannot justify making an entire pot roast for oneself

Indiana’s entry to the Sample family, Mark Allen, is the meathead member of the family who peaked in high school.

I understand Microsoft wanting to EOL the software, but not providing an ongoing conversion tool is bonkers to me. I genuinely converted almost 1,500 Publisher documents today at my church—files that would have disappeared into the ether in two weeks otherwise!

It requires a tiny bit of technical know-how, but anyone who knows what a command line is should be able to get it up and running in a few minutes. Once it’s going, it runs on its own churning out PDFs. It preserves booklet formatting, so stored bulletins and the like will print correctly.

If you work for a church or nonprofit like mine that has literal decades of files in Microsoft Publisher format, Microsoft has published a handy script to turn them into PDFs, but it will only work until the end of this month! support.microsoft.com/en-us/publis...

I’m watching a 2011 Apple keynote (don’t judge me), and it seems so quaint the things we were amazed by when the iPad 2 came out. They spent SO much time talking about multi-touch on the display.

Do we think it’s a good or a bad sign when they have to check multiple boxes to indicate what’s wrong? That’s probably good, right?
A sign reading “DANGER UNSAFE STRUCTURE - NO TRESPASSING” in red, followed by “TRESPASSERS WILL BE PROSECUTED,” “STRUCTURE ADDRESS:” with obscured text, and “UNDER SECTION 37-7-9-3 INDIANA STATE STATUTE.” Below, checkboxes show “STRUCTURE,” “WIRING,” and “PLUMBING” marked, with “FOUNDATION,” “OTHER,” “HEATING,” and “DEMOLITION” unchecked; “INSPECTOR:” and “PHONE:” are obscured, and “DATE: 9/14/24” is handwritten. The sign is mounted behind a reflective surface with unclear background reflections.

We're being told that if we sacrifice the rights of some people, then the rest of us get to keep our rights. We all know that's some BS.

The 2009 television hit Glee should not be allowed to return to the airwaves for any reason, BUT, I do think we should have an annual Purge-like televised special where people do Glee-style covers of songs so society has a release valve for its “I’d love to hear the Glee version of this song” energy

Do you know how much transit you could build for 60 BILLION DOLLARS? You could build the entire Second Avenue Subway TWICE. You could double Amtrak’s budget FOR FIFTEEN YEARS. You could build Honolulu’s train system end to end FIVE TIMES. You could buy ALL 20,000 US municipalities four new buses.

One thing that I remain astounded by in California is how normal it is for there to be pieces of public roadway that are de-facto privatized by the In-n-Out drive thru line.

As a past proud owner of a Prius C and two Honda Fits, I commend to you the Kia Niro EV/EV3 as an electric alternative. While not a hatchback in the truest sense, it is the closest thing I've found that scratches the itch for "zippy little city car that you can somehow fit an IKEA couch in."

I got an Instagram ad for a Temu kneeler, which is both the most Episcopalian thing that could happen and maybe also actual sacrilege
An advertisement for a wooden stool with a shelf and cushion. The stool is brown and has a foldable design. The shelf holds a book and a small box. The text reads "A Sturdy Wooden Stool Featuring A Shelf And Cushion, Ideal For..." and "Full Size Foldable." The Temu logo is visible in the top left corner.

The thing about meetings is 95% of what happens is predictable. Someone is going to make a motion, a vote is going to happen, etc. A mentor taught me this when I first became a minutes-taker—establishing a scaffolding in the doc beforehand frees you up to take clear, meaningful minutes in between!

Remarkably, everything seems to work upon re-installation. Still needs some finishing touches but it’s a big upgrade from the rickety bookshelf that was holding it all up before. (Thanks to Tom Scott’s series on English counties for providing the test audio.)
