It's Caravaggio's birthday again, good excuse to get people to watch Derek Jarman's extravagantly marvellous CARAVAGGIO (1986) (and look at some Caravaggio paintings).

Latest bookshop loot. (There were no unsigned copies 😏)
Book, hardcover. Two thin trees with bare branches against a white, misty background. A sticker says ‘signed copy’. THE ROUSE by China Miéville.

So Leo warns agains creating a "paradis de machines" thanks to "AI". Given his day job, I'm sure he's intimately familiar with the concept of paradise, so I can only assume it was his sermon writer who misspelled "enfer de machines". www.leparisien.fr/societe/reli...

This is a canary resuscitator, which miners would use to revive canaries that had passed out from toxic gas, because ideally not only do you care, you don't even leave the bird behind. just a little mining history and not at all a furious scream

Name an actor/actress who was cast in the wrong film. Martin Freeman in The Hobbit. He’s supposedly the Everyman, but he’s a 21st-century Everyman in a vaguely mediaeval context.

Ayone still believing the stereotypical cliché that the Japanese are bad at expressing emotions should watch the final scene of Wim Wenders’ PERFECT DAYS.
Close-up of the face of a man driving a car. He appears middle-aged, sporting a neat, greying moustache and whiskers. He wears a blue jacket and a white towel around his neck. A seatbelt crosses his right shoulder. The wrinkles around his eyes may be age-related, but are also emphasized by his clearly emotional state, as is the suggestion of tears in his eyes. Kōji Yakusho as Hirayama in PERFECT DAYS.

Four people dressed in boring office attire. Two of them are smiling as if their continued employment depends on it, one of them looks like he doesn’t care, and one of them looks like she has no clue why she’s even here, but she’s already quite sure she wants to be elsewhere in a hurry. Literary fixer-upper of the month. One of the Netherlands' most (in)famous post-war writers lived and worked here in the Sixties. #GerardReve #HuizeHetGras #Greonterp www.funda.nl/detail/koop/...
Wooden front door of a small, 19th-century house, with mossy roof tiles over it. A grey plaque next to the door spells "Huize Het Gras" in capitals, flanked by pictures of an hourglass and an inkwell. Part of a window is also visible. The house from slightly farther off, with the façade largely obscured by shrubs. A green side door is partly visible. A scene clearly designed to evoke rural tranquility.

Not particularly well-written (or copy-edited for that matter), and the phrase "this author" should be banned. But a treasure trove nonetheless. Future Noir - Paul M. Sammon #BookSky
Book cover. Monochrome film still of a man in a long trenchcoat, running through the rain across a flat rooftop covered wih rubbish and ventilation/ac units. He looks quite stressed., and is obviously not amused by what he is seeing outside of the frame. Title in bold sans-serifs. FUTURE NOIR (THE MAKING OF BLADE RUNNER) by. Paul M. Sammon.

Book cover. Rough drawing of a big shining circle, presumable the moon, in a night sky with some stars indicated by simple asterisks. The moon is surrounded by several objects/scenes, such as a two-story building with a porch and “SALOON” on the front, the head of a long-beaked bird in flight, a buffalo, a burning human skull, someone sitting at a piano with a woman leaning on top of it, hilly landscape, and most prominently: a person with long black hair bound in two strands hanging from the sides of their head, wearing Native American-style dress. Inside the moon circle, the title and author’s name. THE MAN WHO FELL IN LOVE WITH THE MOON by Tom Spanbauer.

30-day lgbtq+authors challenge! One book that you’ve read per day, no particular order. #BookSky #QueerAuthors #LGBTQauthors 27/30 This Is How You Lose the Time War - Amal El-Mohtar & Max Gladstone
Book cover. On a plain light background, a red bird and a blue bird are pictured in the manner of a playing card: one right side up, the other upside down, only their toes touching. The pictures of their bodies are sliced into several segments that have been shifted slightly out of alignment, parallel to the direction of the cuts.
