What does an EV specialist actually do? For Ben Traviss at Lloyd North Tyneside BMW & MINI, that means visiting customers at home to answer the questions that only arise once you've actually lived with your EV. "I don't sell electric cars. I help people replace uncertainty with confidence."

For many drivers, the dealership is their first real introduction to electric vehicles. So the experience matters. Yet only 1 in 4 used EV buyers rate their dealership handover as good or excellent, compared with 34% of new car buyers, according to our latest nationwide survey.

🚗⚡ August registration figures are out, showing another record month for #EVs, at a time when the Government has opened a consultation on the ZEV Mandate. This consultation could weaken the very targets that have driven the growth we're seeing month after month. 📊 Data: newautomotive.org/ecc

The UK Government just launched its #ZEV Mandate consultation, reviewing the pathway to 2030 and 2035. As the transition gathers pace, the focus should be on removing the barriers stopping drivers from making the switch, not weakening the ambition.

🚗⚡ July registration figures show that electric vehicles just had their strongest July on record, outpacing the ZEV Mandate's required trajectory for a second month running, while petrol and diesel registrations continued their decline. 📊 Data: newautomotive.org/ecc

New AutoMotive's analysis confirms that the cut to household electricity VAT will widen the gap between those who can charge at home and those who can't.   Those relying entirely on public charging will see none of that saving and pay an estimated £216 a year in VAT on top.

New polling by @yougov.co.uk, commissioned by ChargeUK, shows that cutting public charging prices to below petrol would move the needle on EV sales. This research found it would boost demand by nearly 50% and put sales above the government's 2026 target of 33% of new car sales.

The conversation about EV charging often focuses on the number of chargepoints. But as our CEO Vicky Edmonds explained on BBC Radio 4's You and Yours on Monday, "it's not about chargepoints being available, it's about them being at the right price and being accessible too."

Today's announcement that VAT on household electricity bills will be cut from October is good news for households across the country. For EV drivers who charge at home, it makes one of the UK's cheapest forms of transport even more affordable.

We've written to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, urging her to pause and rethink #eVED, the proposed pay-per-mile tax on EVs. The Government published its consultation response on Monday, confirming it intends to press ahead, but the fundamental concerns raised by drivers still aren't resolved.

EVA England @evaengland.org.uk · 13/07/2026
The Government has published its eVED consultation response. And it's a disappointing read for drivers. There's one welcome change: Newer EVs will no longer face extra mileage checks in their first 3 years.

24 charging sessions. 3 countries. Nearly 3,000 miles. 1 clear conclusion: No EV charging network used during Disabled Motoring UK's accessibility road trip was fully accessible to a disabled motorist.

Nobody wants EVs” is now a decade-old genre of journalism. Over that decade, EV share of new UK car sales went from 0.3% to 25%. The genre hasn’t aged well.

New research from Which? backs our call for proper, independent scrutiny of EV charging. More people are now travelling by EV than by train on an average day, and 54% of drivers say they'd consider buying one. But compared to rail passengers, EV drivers get a fraction of the scrutiny.

🚗⚡June was one of the strongest months on record for EV adoption, with #EVs making up almost 1 in 3 new cars registered. 📊 Data: newautomotive.org/ecc Our CEO, Vicky Edmonds, said: "This is another exceptionally strong month for EVs and further proof that drivers are increasingly choosing electric.

Drivers aren't being mandated to buy electric, they have to choose to. So if the transition doesn't work for them, it just doesn't work. That's why we've written to the Secretary of State for Transport, calling for an urgent meeting following the recent media debate about weakening the ZEV Mandate.

EVA England @evaengland.org.uk · 19/06/2026
The ZEV Mandate is under threat again. And once again, drivers are being left out of the conversation. Demand for EVs is accelerating, and drivers who've made the switch don't want to go back. Manufacturers should focus on turning that demand into sales, not navigating yet another U-turn.

We're thrilled to share that our Charge Up Change campaign was runner-up in the SMK National Campaigner Awards 2026's Best Consumer Rights Campaigns category! While we didn't take the top prize, this reflects the brilliant work our team has put into pushing for a fairer deal for EV drivers.

ChargeUK's new report confirms what drivers already know: the EV charging sector is a huge opportunity for the UK, and could contribute £15.5bn to the UK economy by 2035, supporting hundreds of thousands of jobs. But only with the right policy, which means a stable ZEV mandate is essential.

Over 2 million EVs are now on UK roads. More and more households are looking at making the switch. And despite mixed signals from politicians, drivers know that electric is the future. But the transition isn't working for everyone yet. Tomorrow, we're taking that message to Parliament 🚗⚡

Many positive signs for the UK’s EV transition this week: 📈 EV sales grew by 55.6% compared to April 2025, reaching around 26% market share 🔌 The UK now has 120,000+ public chargers 🚗 Electric was the most popular fuel type for new car enquiries on Autotrader for the first time ever in April

We've asked our members where they like to charge 🚗 ⚡  Their answers tell a story the national conversation often misses: there are genuinely great places to charge in England, from scenic views in Cornwall to a farm shop in Gloucestershire. As one driver put it, “charge and do touristy stuff”!

EVA England @evaengland.org.uk · 24/04/2026
New analysis from ChargeUK shows that public charging costs have dipped below petrol and diesel: EV drivers can expect to pay around 15p per mile, compared to 17p for a typical petrol car. A positive shift for EV drivers, but one largely driven by rising fuel prices rather than structural change.

Yesterday's Government announcement to introduce permitted development rights for EV charging and cross-pavement solutions is a major breakthrough for the millions without driveways who currently face a two-tier system of higher costs and fewer options.

🚗 ⚡ A "significant turning point" for the EV transition: For the first time, new electric cars are now cheaper on average than petrol. Autotrader reports that new EVs now cost £42,620 on average, compared to £43,405 for petrol models.

EVs are smoother, quieter, and cheaper to run. Drivers are ready to make the switch. Now the charging network needs to deliver. That’s why we're supporting Electrify London, calling on those standing for election this May to commit to charging that is reliable, affordable, and easy to use.

The proposed pay per mile tax for EV drivers (eVED) carries real risk. If introduced at the wrong time or in the wrong way, it risks stalling the EV transition. EVA England CEO, Vicky Edmonds: "2028 is way too soon. 2030 is when the market should be looking more stable."

Yesterday, our CEO Vicky Edmonds appeared before the Transport Select Committee to deliver a clear message: EV owners love their cars, but data from our latest survey shows that concerns over the pay-per-mile (eVED) scheme and public charging costs are hitting consumer confidence hard.

A few weeks ago, we brought EV drivers together with HM Treasury officials to discuss eVED, the pay-per-mile scheme for EVs due to be introduced in April 2028. The message was clear: there is a deep sense of dismay and frustration, and many feel that this scheme unfairly penalises EV drivers.

The Government has announced today new funding to expand EV charging across England, making it easier for people without driveways to plug in at home and at work. From 1 April, renters, flat owners, and businesses will be able to claim up to £500 off the cost of installing an EV chargepoint.

Your miles, your say 🚗⚡ The Government is proposing a new pay-per-mile scheme for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, known as eVED. From April 2028, the cost of driving electric would change significantly:  - Battery electric vehicles would pay 3p per mile  - Plug-in hybrids 1.5p per mile
