The road towards AAV-mediated gene therapy of Duchenne muscular dystrophy
Multiple gene therapy approaches for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) have been under development for more than 35 years. AAV-mediated delivery of miniaturized dystrophin genes have shown some encouraging results and led to initial FDA approval of one drug. Here we review challenges and future prospects for AAV methods for DMD.
