Broadly speaking the UK has a "someone must have standing if it's the only way to ensure government according to law" rule. Is there a way of legislating for that in the US or is it another good reason for SCOTUS reform (cough adding members cough)? @elienyc.bsky.social

@vicderbyshire.bsky.social is a national treasure. What an interview. It's only the latest excellent interview, but bloody hell.

"The Dems" (or at least the Democratic Party establishment) didn't. But the Democratic primary voters in Maine thought it was acceptable. That's not a vetting failure.

I mean it's not for me to answer, but I suspect either of those would be a better candidate right now. But there were a number of candidates running for governor all of whom got out of view and only 1 of whom will get the nomination.

Do you really believe no one asked him that??

That isn't the same thing and was well known before the primary, so presumably "The Dems" did their job.

I don't actually believe you're in good faith, so I'm out.

It absolutely makes you an apologist. Because no amount of evidence will convince you. It's not even as though this accusation is wholly out of character, what with his Reddit posts. Even if you think he might not be guilty, it is irrational to think he can win when he was only tied before this.

Had Australia had better politicians and better politics over the compulsory voting period?

I did thanks. I'd actually started writing it earlier but there were a couple of points to be made/reinforced still when I came back to it.

They clearly spend far too much time online in their comfort zone of Twitter or even "Truth" Social

Ah. So the truth is almost certainly the opposite: that he tried to have his photograph with her and she realised that it would be used in every election against her and refused.

Isn't a vision for Makersfield a vision for Britain? Or are you proposing that he lobbies for laws which affect only Makersfield? He's an MP, not ladder of the council. It just seems like an awfully bad faith attack.

I am a protestor, You are a freedom fighter They are terrorists It's always "them". Never someone one admires or for a cause one supports. I think we've lost nuance somewhere. It should still be possible to say that the Suffragettes were terrorists and they were right.

I've always thought making them a publisher was what should happen. It's consistent with the rest of the law and it's actually what they're doing: selecting content to show to others.

@preetbharara.bsky.social I have a question about the #theftnotsettlement. Is this money appropriated? Or is this a way of circumventing congressional power of the purse?

What is impeachment for? Not for a violent insurrection, apparently. Not for stealing a billion dollars? I know political advisors will say that trump gets handed a win if impeachment is wheeled out again but surely Dems still have to do it if they take the House?

With @timmiller.bsky.social saying on @thebulwark.com that at least one MAGA is wondering if Trump is the antichrist, can we help such people along in that belief? It can't be too much of a stretch to suggest 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse. RFK jr as Pestilence? Hegseth as War? Other candidates?

Today Parliament votes on the removal of juries for most cases. The impact of the removal of juries would be immeasurable. Some judges will no doubt do a good job. All will do their best. But those who didn't practice in crime will often have no concept of the lives they are going to be judging.

Late to the #halftimeshow discourse. But rewatching it was a display of everything conservatives claim to be for: small businesses; marriage; family; work; unity; masculinity; femininity. It's almost like the only problem was the brown people.

It's obvious to me that Stephen Miller is actually in charge. He lies to Trump playing him old video to get him to sign things safe in the knowledge that Trump will never admit being duped since that would expose his dementia

I've just realised Live and Let Die is a Blaxploitation film. Despite it being my favourite James Bond film since forever.

If I can get "Diddy on Trial: As it Happened" on Disney+ (UK) using transcripts of the trial during the trial, why on earth did no one do that for Trump's trial? @preetbharara.bsky.social @joycewhitevance.bsky.social @barbmcquade.bsky.social
