The 8th-seeded Ohio State Buckeyes.
In 2024, Ohio State got the #8 seed (but the #6 ranking) in the first 12-team College Football Playoff, because they lost to Oregon by one point in Autzen and then to an unranked Michigan by three at home. They won their four CFP games by a total of 70 points, including leading Oregon 34-8 at the half.

Book 80 of 2026: "She's a Doll" by @barbaratruelove.bsky.social. The book club has once again hit it out of the park. A deliciously horrific ghost/revenge story. Cannot recommend it highly enough. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
The cover of "She's a Doll" by Barbara Truelove, bestselling author of "Of Monsters and Mainframes". A severed porcelain doll's arm lies on a field of pink, the shreds of a sleeve hanging off one end, a spider sitting on the sleeve. The doll's hand gives a shaka sign, with a tag hanging off the pinky. The tag has the crossed-out words "girl", "victim", "ghost", and "killer" above the not-crossed-out "doll". Price tags descend from $19.95 to $1.00.

Book 79 of 2026: "HellSans" by @everdundas.bsky.social. I thought this was horror, but it's not too much (despite lots of blood and vomit (no, really, sooo much blood and vomit)). It's good, though. A little long, but also deeply meta in all the right ways. A solid ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
The cover of "HellSans" by Ever Dundas. The title is in big letters on two lines, with "HE" and "SA" in a sans-serif typeface, and "LL" and "NS" have serifs forming out of the fragmented corners of the letters. In the top curve of each S, women's faces look at each other.
The blurb is from Joanne Harris, author of "Chocolat": "This terrific book; a dark and clever sci-fi social satire."

The cover of "Kiss Slay Replay" by Rachel Harrison. The title is printed on a wedding cake with a knife stuck in the middle tier and blood dripping from the wound. The image is echoed three times to drive home that this is, as noted, A Time Loop Novel.
The blurb at bottom is "Harrison's feminist horror novels are some of the most original and entertaining out there." from the New York Times.

Book 68 of 2026: “The Real All-Americans” by Sally Jenkins. Nominally the story of a 1912 football game between Carlisle Industrial Indian School and the U.S. Military Academy, it’s really a history of the former through the lens of its football program… kinda? See alt text for more. ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
The cover of “The Real All Americans” by Sally Henkins. A black-and-white picture of old-time American gridiron football players in a scrum. The subtitle, which takes up the bottom third: “IN 1912, A NATIVE AMERICAN FOOTBALL TEAM, LED BY JIM THORPE AND COACH "POP" WARNER, DEFEATED THE U.S.
MILITARY ACADEMY ON THE FIELDS OF WEST POINT. THE ASTONISHING WINNING STREAK OF THE CARLISLE INDIANS, INCLUDING VICTORIES AGAINST HARVARD AND PENN, CHANGED AMERICAN FOOTBALL INTO THE GAME IT IS TODAY.”

And the blurb is, amazingly, “The most fascinating piece of sports history ever written!” by FUCKING LANCE ARMSTRONG.

I so desperately wanted this book to be better. It starts well, laying the groundwork for why the Carlisle School existed and how hodgepodge the whole endeavor was. But at the same time, what eventually became American football was also laying the groundwork for existing and a hugely hodgepodge endeavor, and this book gives you nine of that. “Why was the forward pass innovative?” would seem to be an important part of this book, but it is elided, along with nearly every other development of the game in this time period. We’re told that Warner (along with many Native players and coaches, who are much less fleshed out except for Jim Thorpe) innovated, but it’s a surface-level description throughout. I don’t recall a single mention of the changes in scoring happening in this time, one of the most basic things I would think needed to be highlighted.

A good history of the era, but I was sold a much more sports-oriented book than I got.
