Martin: I want to talk about when you did start relying on A.I. in an emotional way. Can you tell me what was happening in your life when you started to change your approach to it?

Todd: I mean, I remember my last normal day was the Fourth of July in 2024. My dad was on his way out to see the fireworks when he had a bad fall that we later found out was a stroke. And had to go to the I.C.U. We all decided to meet at the hospital. My dad seems good. He’s talking. He’s describing what happened. We’re watching “Wheel of Fortune” together. My mom kisses my dad on the head before she leaves. I walk my mom to her car. Before she pulls away, I tell her: “Get home safe. Love you.” And that was the last time I saw my mom alive. My mom passed away very unexpectedly that evening.

Martin: Bridget, I am so sorry.

Todd: After my mom passed away — I will never forget — my family and I got together at her house, and we said, “We have to tell my father.” My father was in the hospital. He didn’t have his phone with him. So he didn’t know. And I remember the next day all of us coming together to tell my dad what happened. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. And my dad, in a lot of ways, he died then. I think hearing about my mom, it was like he made a choice that he wanted to be with her.

Martin: Were you talking with anyone about what you were going through?

Todd: Not really. It was a very weird transient few months. And my friends all knew what was going on. They were there for me. I was not able to really receive that. My brother was expecting twins on top of having a young child, so he had a lot on his plate. And caregiving is just very isolating, and it’s difficult to connect with people in your life when you’re experiencing that. It’s so all-encompassing, and the things that you are encompassing are the worst things you can imagine. And then on top of that, it’s dealing with the hospital and insurance and, “Is Medicare going to pay for this?” And “How do we get this and that paperwork and this phone call?” You drown in it.

When I would get a text or a phone call, I would say, “What now?” The idea of responding to someone else was just too much. Also, my partner was the M.V.P. of this whole thing, like my rock. And my partner never complained. But I had asked so much of him that, even though I know he would have been receptive, it just didn’t feel right to be like: “Hey, you’ve derailed your entire life. We’re running out of money. You are spending every day dealing with the most unimaginable horror shows. Also, we need to talk about my feelings.”

You know all those tpusa memes where Charlie always made the same face, trying to look thoughtful? That was to avoid the licensing fee for using stock images. He saved tpusa over a hundred dollars that way over the years. And he loved doing them. The interns do most of the work around here, so a lot of the time Charlie would just kind of wait around, but his little face would just light up every time we needed him for one of those. And then we’d have to wait a few minutes for him to stop grinning and try to look serious. He reminded me of a dog doing a trick at a party. God bless and keep you, Charlie.

Charlie was never what you’d call a popular guy, but now, millions of true patriots who never even met him consider him their best friend, and I think that’s beautiful.

I was saddened to hear of the tragic and untimely death of Charlie Kirk. And very saddened to hear that his carcass would be wasted by the foolish custom of burial. Not only is a clean-living young man like that good meat that should be used to nourish more life, not pumped full of chemical preservatives and sealed in a coffin, I personally met Charlie Kirk in 2001 soon after he was decanted, and instantly formed an atmic‐molecular bond with him. His pet dog had been ran over, and while stopping to harvest the remains, I was struck by the curiously child‐like crying of this bright young man, as well as how he was having obvious difficulty maintaining his internal organs within his body, as he was only just growing used to having skin.
