The point about archery is a really good one, I think Rowan might enjoy it for similar reasons, but would prefer to use magic rather than a bow - he doesn't like the idea of not having a hand free just in case. (He'd get on with guns though - boy grew up a farmer)

Unsurprisingly Ross the goat shifter goes for outdoor rock climbing. (And yes, their world has 'adapted' categories for folks who have natural advantages. If they're unshifted they can compete in normal categories) Zoe would love to learn fencing or boxing, everyone else is rightfully scared. 3/3

Foria also knows sean nós, the more modern tap version and the soft soled irish (not irish in world) dance. He would be exceptionally good at kickboxing if he enjoyed fighting, and fights with an informal version. Post accident Rowan would probably enjoy archery or skree shooting (with magic) 2/3

#AwesomeCharacters for Woodstop: So Rowan and Dr. Foria were near professional ballroom dancers at university. The main thing that stopped them taking part in competitions was the required hair gel causing Rowan to freak out and the time commitment (both doctors). 1/3

"It's magnificent, isn't it?" Swift Nightingale grinned as he half turned, emerald coat fluttering in the wind as elegantly as Flowing Silk's robes. "Everything seems so much simpler from up here, doesn't it?"

Flowing Silk nodded and returned one hand to the harness, the other lifting to brush the clouds above them before they soared into them.

Strangely, the clouds weren't as solid as they seemed, the land beneath them disappearing in clumps like they were flying through a bank of fog. It was fascinating and beautiful watching them go past.

He turned to share his wide smile with the others only to find Sheng clinging tightly to the harness and determinedly looking down at the bird's back. Xiong did manage to meet Flowing Silk's gaze, but his smile was weak and forced.

… He probably shouldn't try to get them to see the beautiful side of it too much. For all it had been wonderful to let go of his burdens and just laugh he should probably calm down to not rub it in their faces too much.

They broke through the clouds and Flowing Silk gasped. Clouds rolled before them as far as the eye could see like a fluffy blanket and the sky above was a piercing blue that was only usually visible on the clearest of days. But it was not only that which had caught his eyes.

Thousands on thousands of stars were strewn across the sky despite it being daytime. They were flying so high that it almost felt like Flowing Silk should be able to touch them, skimming along the underside of the Heavens.

"The Might of the God truly comes from the heavens, if it can allow mortals to see such wonders as this," Flowing Silk breathed.

Swift Nightingale smiled at him, a softer one than their usual devil-may-care attitude, "That it is. I'm glad I could share it with you, if only for a little while."

So they sailed on in the endless peace above the clouds, and for the first time since Ren's death, Flowing Silk finally, properly, smiled.

I had to make the same decision when I got an offer for Wooing the Witch Queen from a Russian publisher on the condition that Saskia & Ailana would be rewritten as straight. As someone who makes her living through writing, it hurts to turn down $ for food and bills, but I couldn't say yes to that.

Gone through the querytracker agent list for LGBTQ+ AND Fantasy, now doing the same for publishers. Possibly switching the search to 'or' fairly soon.

Basically not heard from anyone apart from one who rejected pretty much immediately (An expected one as she wanted higher stakes, she'd probably prefer EotUS) Just silence on other fronts. I need to send out more queries but this week's been hard and filtering which publishers to send to is hard.

#WIPSnips | Pulse Unsurprisingly 'Pulse' appears a lot when you're writing about a former doctor making a child, but here's one in the non medical context. #CosyFantasy #WriteSky

Rowan had *not* been prepared for the rush of emotions that seeing his child take shape would cause. His love and magic surged, falling into and flowing through the straw and cloth like blood and light, seeping into the burlap skin from the straw like capillaries.

His sight flickered, straw feet replaced by human ones in small socks, reality swinging as Vision took over. A thousand moments with the skin showing the flush of warmth.

By the time Rowan's vision cleared he was trembling from exertion. The emotions were getting stronger. He should be scared, especially given that little stunt had nearly wiped him out. This was dangerous, that a moment of inattention could result in so much power and emotion that he was left *shaking* afterwards-!

Gods, what was he *doing*? That had been a far bigger pulse than anything he'd experienced for… a long time, and his level of power was *dangerous* if allowed to run unchecked. Had he damaged anything?

He looked around the room and blinked once in surprise. The magic *hadn't* gone everywhere. Nothing in the room was glowing with his power apart from the scarecrow and the bag of straw, and the latter was only as strong as it had been before.

It… hadn't gone everywhere?

He stared down at the legs in his hands and realised all the burlap was shimmering now, the straw practically sloshing with magic in a way that meant it was near impossible to not see them as proper feet instead of cloth and straw.

Rowan *definitely* needed a rest before his senses got more skewed, but hope, small and impossible to suppress, lit in his chest. He'd let his grip slip, but his thoughts had been so focussed on his child that none of his power had spilled. *That* meant that his theory was working, that by filling his thoughts with love for the child he was making the Uncontrolled magic go precisely where he wanted it to.

Guilt rippled at the edge of Rowan's awareness, "I didn't want to bother you, not when you were finally healing."

There was another pause, and when Foria next spoke it was gentle, "Rowan, do you remember what I said when I first left to start travelling?"

Rowan searched his memory, but unlike most of his recollections it was… hazy, a set of bookcases surrounded by fog so thick part of him cringed away. These were memories that had the ability to trap him if he wasn't careful.

Draw the knowledge out at a distance then, the way normal people remember, "That it hurt to be around me and you needed to work out who you were now."

"Almost," his best friend replied, "it hurt to be around you because you were stuck in deep depression. If I had stayed then I would have been constantly dragged under with you or forced to be bright and cheerful when I didn't have the energy."

"Which would have damaged you in a different way," Rowan said slowly, turning the logic over in his mind. "The only way to protect yourself was to leave and let me work through it. You don't put yourself in danger or there's two casualties instead of one."

"Precisely," Dr. Foria said patiently. "Now consider the current situation. You're looking to the future, planning for a child. Not only that but you are genuinely excited about your secret project. Does that sound like someone who is so deep in depression they are metaphorical quicksand?"

Rowan felt a smile tease at his mouth, then a soft chuckle, "No, no it does not." He took a deep breath and it felt like the world grew lighter, "So will you visit me more often?"

Dr. Foria laughed, "I still need to travel and see my patients, but yes!"

Happiness rippled through him at the confirmation he hadn't driven them away forever, but his voice remained even, "Excellent. What a wonderful Midwinter present."

Flowing Silk was immediately curious, but it was nothing compared to the eagerness with which the Eye responded, "Oh? *That* time?" Flowing Silk could *hear* the fangs in the voice, almost feel the beads of venom ready to fall. "That would do well enough."

Han's eyes shut in resignation, "Then take it. Immortals know I've given too much to hold back now."

With Han's agreement, the Eye flashed triumphantly and a bead of emerald light rose from it, floating to Flowing Silk. Flowing Silk removed his hand from the Eye to catch it with both hands, studying the Secret as it floated above his palms. Curiously it was the same size and shape as the beads, another proof of them being equal and opposite.

Flowing Silk turned and opened his hands, offering the memory to the Beads. Han held out the beads in an appropriate offering position and the emerald bead floated over. As soon as it touched the other beads it melted into a golden glow that the pearls quickly absorbed.

The group collectively breathed a sigh of relief and Han moved to hand the beads back. Just before he let go they rippled gold for a second and Han went pale, hands shaking as he finished handing them over.

Flowing Silk settled the beads around his neck with his own sigh of relief at the familiar weight. Thank goodness, he wasn't alone any more.

The unnatural darkness lifted and one of the servants unfroze, "-ore tea, Master Sheng?"

At the confirmation that the negotiation was over Flowing Silk's bones gave out, sliding off his chair to collapse in a puddle on the floor. Everything had gone rather fuzzy, but he was mostly sure that was just his eyes refusing to process anything because his brain was too busy trying to handle the enormity of what it had just learned. "Gods and little fishes I was not expecting that to work," he gasped. "I didn't think it was actually *true*."

Yup! He's ended up with an unfortunate specialism in helping those in bad situations escape them (child and adult) so he has a lot of part experience to draw on for improvisation! (He hopes he never has to smuggle someone out the back of a walk in clinic while the partner's in front again though.)
