“I used to actually be halfway decent at this,” he says ruefully, “if you’ll believe it.”
“I do,” Jimin says, aching for him. Jungkook lets out a breath.
“Ah, I’m sorry, Jimin-ssi. You don’t need to listen to me complain.”
“I don’t mind,” he says. He really doesn’t. He might be out of practice keeping company with anyone, but he’s grateful for it all the same—for the bitter and the sweet. Teasing, he adds, “And what happened to calling me hyung?”
“Sorry,” says Jungkook, ducking his head, but the dark cloud hanging over him eases. “Jimin-hyung.”
Jimin grins and pushes himself to his feet, knees aching.
“I can’t say I understand,” he says. “I don’t know the first thing about magic. But I’m sorry he had to leave, and I’m sorry he’s not here now. Though I’m not sorry for his house, or his cellar. And I was thinking… We might have a bath?”
Jungkook blinks at him, and blinks again, and a flush climbs his cheeks, and Jimin realizes abruptly how that sounds.
“Not together,” he hurries to assure him, a little warm in the face himself. “You can go first, actually, if you want. Just, I saw the tub, and there’s all that fresh snow, and we could heat some water, maybe, if you’d like, or—”
“No, yes, that’s fine,” Jungkook interrupts. “I can go—”
“Or I can—”
“You already got the dishes—”
“You made dinner—”
“Hyung.”
Jimin’s mouth snaps shut. His face is definitely burning now. His offer from the first night feels bright and present between them.

a quick little (unedited! apologies for any mistakes!) #wipwednesday snippet from my @kmcovenfest.bsky.social fic

The cabin appears out of the gloom just as the last struggling gleam of daylight cedes to nightfall. They nearly miss it, shoving through calf-high snow, chins tucked down against the wind. It’s easy to miss—the windows are dark, the chimney cold, and the worn planks blend with the grey gnarl of the forest around it. Jimin’s heart sinks.
Next to him, Jungkook stills and shoves his hood back. His nose is pink, even in the bruising dark of evening.
“Is that it?” Jimin asks, tugging his scarf down. His breath puffs in the cold.
“Yes,” says Jungkook, but he sounds uncertain. Jimin chews on the inside of his lip.
“Is he… Are you sure he’s here?”
“I was,” Jungkook says. He takes a few steps forward, shoving through the snow. Jimin follows after him, following the path he carves until they reach the steps of the cabin and the relative safety of the eaves. Icicles hang above them, dripping dangerous over the narrow porch.
Up close, the windows are dark, curtains drawn. Something has been carved above the lintel of the door, some sigil or symbol. Jungkook has a hand and an ear pressed to the door, frown blooming fierce over his face. Jimin leans over the far edge of the porch, careful of the ice speared down overhead, but the side of the cabin looks just like the rest—grey, cold, silent. Empty.
“Jungkook,” he says, uncertain, and Jungkook leans back from the door with a sigh.
“Yeah,” he says.
“At least it’s shelter,” Jimin offers, joining him again. Jungkook gives him a sideways look, not quite a smile.
