Congressional candidate is raped while repairing her campaign signs
Embarrassed, she initially didn’t want to report attack. Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office's investigation is ongoing.

In the beginning the political spam texts were spaced by twenty-four weeks, then twelve, then six, then every two weeks. In four days, we could be seeing the spam every eight hours until they are coming every four minutes.

This is sexual violence as a form of terrorism. It is political violence and it is chilling and horrific, and AOC was absolutely right to be terrified that the goons (now pardoned) laying siege to the capital would rape her if they found her. Small changes won't fix this. FLIP THE TABLE NOW

It's a doubly infuriating dynamic because Republicans called out Piker as if he mattered. Democrats have decided, for the second straight election, to let Musk's hundreds of millions and the flurry of Nazi hate at trans people pass by as if it's not worthy of comment.

White supremacist cops take a minority citizen, drive him out to the woods as a threat, and leave him there. No, it's not Mississippi in the 1930s, why do you ask?

And that is very common. One of the things I worked on when I worked with progressive DA candidates was reform of how sexual assault cases were handled by the office (then run by Cy Vance)

Sure. But that’s not even what I’m talking about. I’m talking about things similar to what happened with the Cornell prosecutor, where the victim is failed every step of the way and the prosecutor doesn’t bother

Literally no one has said that. Least of all me. Stop trying to put words into my mouth. It’s not making you look like less of an ass.

But mansplaining how rape cases work to a victim of rape is truly a new level of male hubris. Congrats.

No I did not. Your need to make my argument about what you want to talk about does not mean you are more of an authority on what I meant or said.

Literally no one is saying that and you keep putting up straw men in your weird attempt to insinuate that rapes are over rather than under prosecuted

Elizabeth Spiers @espiers.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
That does not contradict anything I said. Jeffrey Dahmer had a presumption of innocence. That doesn’t mean he wasn’t guilty and did not mean that a prosecutor would decline to prosecute

Elizabeth Spiers @espiers.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
We are not talking about innocent people here. We’re talking about rapists who get off because police and prosecutors don’t believe women

This is just not true. I have worked with two different D.A. candidates and this is a known and common problem. I’m not suggesting that D.A. go after obvious losing cases, but that they go after cases they can win even if they’re not slam dunks—which they don’t do

But the funniest assertion Wayne makes is that parents only take kids sports seriously if the kids have real talent. I had two brothers who played high school and little league baseball and the number of times insane parents had to be escorted off the field …

All this tells me is that Wayne has never participated in a spelling bee because they give you a literal book of 20 letter words you will never use in life and you are expected to study them. And as a lower class hick alumna / 3rd place state spelling bee champion, in my opinion, Wayne is a dumbass

@espiers.bsky.social really nailed it in her @thenation.com piece about rape and her rape in general. She describes the protective response victims develop, feeling and thinking of oneself as a “brain in a vat” This was my view of myself by puberty & it made me more vulnerable to more SA later on.

And getting rid of frats and consent training are not mutually exclusive
010
Elizabeth Spiers @espiers.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Most kids are not getting *any* consent training at all. Not in middle and high schools anyway. We live in a country where the GOP is trying to ban sex ed altogether and in conservative states sex ed is still abstinence only.

Elizabeth Spiers @espiers.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

If you think most people are getting consent education, that is a wild misconception by itself. But they especially aren’t getting it when it starts being a problem - around 5th grade.

A tough piece, specifically a piece about women being extremely tough under serious threat. Big respect to @espiers.bsky.social to writing about this in such an unsparing, constructive way. Teaching kids young about consent—and *enthusiastic* consent—is, unfortunately, necessary

I also asked her what misconceptions the kids she talked to had. She said she talked to a 9th grade class recently and asked them what percentage of sexual assault allegations were false. They put it at 80%

Alll of this. I started my career in construction, working office jobs alongside people who worked trades. Know how many 60-year-old guys I saw working as bricklayers? Doing demo? Zero. How many 50-year-old roofers there are? Zero. One reason unions fight for high wages is because careers are SHORT.

Impossible to understand how anyone could look at Rufo's career and conclude he was someone engaged in a "forthright defense of meritocracy." Rufo's entire career is built on the idea of purging people who don't think or look like him from positions of power.
