This land was make for you and me. Happy #IndependenceDay. Happy 250th.

A cloudy day on a sandy beach in California, with mountains in the background and the ocean to the side.

Happily ditched cherry blossoms in Tokyo to take my niece to see her favorite cartoon character, but go on about how childless men don't care about kids.

A large audience of toddlers enthralled by Anpanman and friends performing in Japan.

Lucky enough to get tickets to #LA28. The price gap between men's and women's Olympic #basketball events is a chasm. It's not much better for other sports.

Tickets to men's and women's Olympic basketball games. Prices for the women's bronze medal game start at $106, while men's bronze game starts at $508. The women's final starts at $636.

What is #frailty? It's loss of the body's ability to recover from the stresses life throws at it, particularly acute illnesses and invasive procedures. As we get more frail, it becomes harder to recover from even minor physiologic stressors. 2/8

A graph showing functional independence on the y-axis and time on the x-axis. A green line shows someone who isn't frail: they are independent, have a small decline in independence when sick, and recover quickly and fully. A red line shows a frail person: they are less independent, the same illness leads to a larger decline, and recovery is prolonged and does not return to baseline.

"TV says you got that high-class blues Seems the caravan to Aruba is not the road that you would choose A barstool intellectual with a master's degree in small talk And going to the movies Catalina breeeeeeze" #BlueJeanCommittee #DocumentaryNow

Pope Leo XIV at a microphone looking like he's singing. Clearly he would be a fan of the two sausage boys from Chicago who fronted the Blue Jean Committee.

It was so bad that US life expectancy progress ground to a halt in the 1960s due to cardiovascular disease.

A plot of US period life expectancy from 1901 to 2001, with life expectancy stagnating around 70 years during the 1960s. Taken from Our World In Data.

Why is halting #NIH study sections and grantmaking bad? Because our leadership in research is mostly in biomedicine. We're ceding our main technological strength if this continues.
