most regrettably, it appears i am still having fun (presumably some kind of sin)

looking north from the end of the platforms at Canary Wharf DLR station, along elevated tracks that quite quickly lead between buildings to the next station only 50m away (West India Quay); the tracks have a zigzag to allow switching direction
a DLR train apprpaches to the left, and we're looking over the shoulder of one of my cameras mounted on a tripod which is videoing the scene

me posing for a seffie at West India Quay next to my dear friend, the compact Nikon, which is on a tripod at eye height
it's a Coolpix L30 which is adorably small and kinda crap but does at least have a short optical lens, unlike a phone

my face is uncovered but we're outdoors and nobody else is anywhere near (it was covered in Canary Wharf and on the train itself)

not 100% sure the video will be usable with this sun angle, but the ride is truly delightful

crossing high above a river which i believe is the Medway, at low tide with wide mudflats to either side covered in grounded boats; the sun above casts a reflected column in the water

the great bridge at Dartford cuts through the sky, above an industrial estate
the bridge is long enough to have basically no visible arc in this segment, although the river itself is to our left (far enough to not really be in view from here)

faded to blue in the extreme distance, the skyscrapers of London Docklands poke above the horizon; next to them in the midground, a wind turbine spins lazily; green hills roll in between us and the city

waiting in the parked train at Dover Priory, by an empty gopro cage on the window, as i wait for the same train to take us back to London

playstation "news about one of your follows!" me _clicks Expand_ playstation _opens the game's _Steam_ page_ uhhhhh... what?

a photo of the tv, because screenshotting here is disabled, showing a web browser window open on the PS5 to display information about an upcoming game

except for some reason the page with the information is the game's Steam page, which is honestly probably better but surprising that Sony allows this (and fed it to me as a notification); obviously if i purchased on this page i would not be able to play the game on this device

the game in question is Boltgun 2, if you want to test this for yourself (otherwise, the content in the image about Slaanesh etc is irrelevant to the point here)

ooo interesting, i found a place _within_ London that also uses 165s, the Greenford Branch

the front/back (in this case the driver just got out, so it will be the back) of a BR Class 165 diesel commuter train parked at West Ealing, in delightful GWR green

seffie of me in my usual niche in the corner of a carriage, with my cameras attached to the window at around eye height

view through the window of trees passing by, with my cameras blurry in the near field, recording

an Elizabeth Line train pulls into the station on the left; a sign in the middle identifies the station as West Ealing; on the right, the Greenford line track leads onward from an empty platform before curving off to the right

note that the Greenford track has neither a third rail nor an overhead power cable

they're not special, but they're _mine_ the electronics are fine AFAIK it's just the mechanical parts that are broken unsure: is it worth risking _two_ unusable pairs by trying to salvage parts from their wired sibling, or do i leave that one reliable...?

the headphones, not centred despite being the focus of the picture, have a black finish with a white outline of a smiley face: the face has crossed out "dead" eyes and a jagged waveform forming teeth in its semicircular grin

this was my personal sigil during the office days, and was hand-painted over papier-mache on the MDRs

trip back was a lot better, i think i got a complete video this time the line zigzags so there were still moments of sun glare, but not as many, and no glowing window dust so, nice recording yay

lachine canal (St Lawrence by proxy) status: touched

putting my hand into the water of the Lachine canal, watergrass streaming beneath the surface

looking across the plunge pool at the defunct and rusting skeletons of giant grain elevators, overtaken at the lower levels by greenery

looking beneath trees from one bridge to the next, near the mouth of the canal

the grain elevator complex from across the water, a giant hulk of concrete and rust slowly being eaten by plants, it is amazing and complicated and visually dense with rust and girders and graffiti

this strut not eligible for preprocessor replacement this strut heard the first being preprocessor-replaced

from within the metal cage of the bridge, looking out, centred is a diagonal strut that has been entirely painted baby blue, unlike any of the others which have a delightfully rich textured rust finish

well, this is a route i haven't captured soooo...

my pair of gopros attached to the rather filthy window inside the 165, looking at some pink flowers as they speed by outside, top one flush to the glass and bottom one at 45 degrees

the top camera now has a cable charging it from somewhere off screen, as the world beyond goes by in a blur of green

me peering in, from the perspective of my gopro I guess? rayne is obscured behind me but visibly present; there's an empty pair of green seats across the way, with a window beyond giving an idea of the fine evening's train ride we're enjoying

oh to just go live on a giant column surrounded by trains like one of the prophets of old

looking along the tracks from Woodland Bridge in Putney, where we can see the arches of a brickwork viaduct descend to track level over a half kilometre or so, and in front of that, two huge broken-topped victorian brick columns - maybe three storeys tall? - of where a rail bridge used to fly over, but doesn't any longer
to the side the edge where the track used to end and now cuts off into empty space is visible
the tops of the columns are maybe a dozen square metres, long and narrow, and have small trees growing out of them
