Is anyone else feeling slightly crazy worrying about writing their silly little novels right now as the world actively burns? Or is that just me

Black text on a white background reading: "Monroe draws her legs up to her chest, suddenly aware of how close her feet are to the edge of the pier, to the reaching, crawling Something spreading out from Mosswood's depths, patient and hungry and unknown. It glitters again, a neon light show of colors her brain can't comprehend, and she thinks of watching the flickering lights of passing cars on the highway from her window at the Wildwood Motel, her mother a shadow in her periphery.
Her mother, lounging on the bed, the saturated motel signs blaring through the window, washing in a mosaic of splashy, vibrant colors, not unlike the Something in Ponderosa Bay's waters, unearthly and untouchable despite how it reaches for her."
The word "bed" is highlighted in light green.

Black text on a white background, reading: "She has acclimated herself one finger at a time, and now she is ready.
Below her is a fine green carpet. A forest under the sea. A mermaid's garden, wildly grown. Bushels and stalks and waving reeds of kelp explode beneath her and she is falling to meet the bed of them."
The word "explode" is highlighted in green.

A red poster that says WELCOME TO THE ELYSIAN in yellow font. In the centre there is a picture of a theatre auditorium in reds and pinks, an usher watches over the audience and the curtained stage. Also in yellow text it says "London theatre is full of decay, desperation and debauchery. London's Elysian is no exception."

Starting off #PosterPit with a poster for #Sirensong, where Iron Widow meets Steelheart as a traumatized young woman takes her accidental powers on a quest for vengeance, entering a world full of crime and corruption as she hunts for the puppeteer that possessed her mother. #NA #SF #R #PosterPitQ
A blurry portrait of a young brunette woman with a stripe of black and white over her eyes. The text across the top reads: slowburn, morally grey FMC, kill the rich, power and corruption, and found family. Below that, two awards read "Most Pride content in a single book" and "Best kittens with superpowers."

#PosterPit #PosterPitQ #F #H #A MOSSWOOD An unusual town. A dark, eerie forest. A string of disappearances. Three misfits. A mystery they would die to solve. THE RAVEN BOYS meets PIRANESI by way of David Lynch in this dark coming-of-age with queer & autistic representation!
A poster with an aged off-white background. In the center, a photo of foggy coniferous trees is overlayed with Josefa de Ayala's The Sacrificial Lamb painting. Above it, in a dark red sans-serif font, it reads "11-year-old Analía Monroe only finds solace in her small circle of misfits---her younger half-sister Rajel and best friend June---and the dangerous, magical world of Mosswood deep in the forests of their rural Oregon hometown, but their obsession may have deadly consequences." The photo is outlined with a dark red border. Above the border, in green sans-serif text, it reads "There is something in the woods." Below the lamb, there are dark red blood drips which give way to the title, a green serif font reading "MOSSWOOD" and then "a novel by E.S. Hanson." Below that, in the same red sans-serif font, it reads "Adult contemporary fantasy, folk horror, dark fae folklore, eerie forests." Bordering the image are small golden guardian angel figures.

Black text on a white background that reads: June gets an idea. She thinks of her mother's thin hands grasping June's own---small and childish and still so trusting. The violet ribbon she had weaves between their wrists. Her mother's smoke-rough voice: Now we're bound, right? Now I'll always be here, even when I'm not.

The word "idea" is highlighted in light green.

Black text on a white background reading:
Analía, half-covered by overgrown grass, passed her a red plastic Bic lighter and huffed, "And you're supposed to be in bed."
The narrow box under her arm unsheathed to reveal a few thin, typha-shaped sparklers. Her slender fingers plucked one from the box and Raj flipped the lighter on without protest. Within an instant, the sparkler was a dazzling burst of fire, carving out Analía's face with peachy light.
She smiled coyly at the growing flames, apparently proud of her own feeble act of rebellion.

The word "protest" is highlighted in light green.

#WIPSnips You know what... close enough
Black text against a white background which reads: Once you have been infected, it takes only about five days to kill you, and there is very little you can do to stop it. Five days and everything you were is gone. A single, microscopic, unicellular organism dragging itself through your skull with spindly, false arms---that is all it takes to destroy you.
All summer long, when she and Jason would swim in the lake, she would float in the water, crane her neck back, and slacken her jaw so the sun-warmed water filled her mouth, curious as to what horrible, crawling things would climb inside and eat her back.

#WIPSnips We loveee a run-on sentence<3
A wildly unedited first draft.

Black text against a white background that reads: They trudge up the hill together toward the farmhouse, the evening winds combing back the fields of browning grain and rattling the serpentine scarecrows on their posts. From up high, the village is cast in shadow, a dim blue glow that eats at the edges of the narrow streets.
It occurs to her then, dredging through dusty earth and decaying crops, the insects and high-dwelling birds crowing all the while, that Edrebet is a haunted place.

The word "crops" is highlighted in pale green.

Black text against a white background reading: "Again, avoiding the question."
She sighs, collapsing onto her bed and holding the cross up in front of her face. The light fixture behind it minimizes it edges, carving it out into something softer. Isn't that always the question?

The word "minimizes" is highlighted in light green.

Black text on a white background reading: The girl standing in front of her is wearing her face.
Maybe she really is her, but this other self is older, the perfect image of what a girl like her should grow up to be; spitting blood down her chin and holding out her proffering hands like a true martyr. Another headless saint.

Black text on a white background reading: Hands with cracked nail polish and blisters on their soft underside clutch the handlebars; a dark-haired little girl passes her seashells; a severe, similarly dark-haired woman with a narrow, piched expression on her face switches off a truck's engine; pale, freckled hands turn the pages of a book---calloused, working hands.
The word "woman" is highlighted in light green.

#WIPSnips Ah, a classic lesbian experience: the awkward tween middle-of-the-night sleepover conversation had in total darkness.
Black text on a white background reading: "Mhm," Monroe hums in confirmation.
June feels her shift around, tugging on the quilt they share as she flips to her side, but June remains on her back, staring up. The glow-in-the-dark stars across the sloped ceiling glow acid-green in the darkness.
She doesn't know what she might say if she looks at her now.
The word "share" is highlighted in light green.

#WIPsnips / TW: guns, blood, animal death (in the context of hunting)
She shot it in the flank, several inches above its hip. She never heard the noise the animal made---her ears were ringing from the sound of her rifle---but it went down all the same. Birds in nearby trees squawked and scattered.
It was a bad shot. She knew that before her finger had released from the trigger. Before she dared look. Maybe she knew it before she fired. She took the shot anyway.
It can take over ten hours for a hart to bleed out from a gutshot, her mother had said. The stag’s fur was wetted with blood. It was so much brighter than she had expected it to be. Not at all the deep crimson or watery pink she’d seen in movies. This is why you don’t hesitate, Juniper. This is why you don’t show mercy.
