My Review

An unflinching examination of war, revolution, and the complexities of freedom. Equal parts dark and tender, intimate and cosmic, CRY, VOIDBRINGER is an autopsy of an epic fantasy novel: bloody, incisive and illuminating.
For as common as it is for SFF to tackle themes of oppression and resistance, rarely does a book so candidly demand that its reader sit with their discomfort. This is not a book to "escape into" but fantasy that holds a mirror up to our own souls.
These are the kinds of stories l'd desperately like to see more of in today's SFF.
(Extra extra bonus points for the sapphic characters in this omfgggg)
I will read anything Elaine Ho writes next. You do not (!!!!) want to miss this one. Out Oct 2025.

I tend to be tense/POV agnostic in both my reading and writing. I believe that each story demands to be told in a certain way. The first person is more intimate, while the third gives you lots of narrative freedom. I enjoy the tyranny of perspective/tense and my favourite works often subvert them.
