I'm glad there's finally some pushback against "bringing back manufacturing". But also, "manufacturing jobs" never really left, they just changed form—cooks, baristas, construction worker etc. The perception that these jobs are somehow different from earlier "manufacturing jobs" is due to marketing.

I am heartbroken by the passing of our colleague Ghazala Azmat. A wonderful economist and AEJ: Economic Policy Board member, she was generous with her time and a vital contributor to many areas within applied economics and economic policy. She will be sorely missed. My heart goes out to her family.

My latest test of AI is to ask it about various political rumours I’ve heard (or perhaps just imagined on my own), such as “is the U.K. government going to raise taxes” or “which unis are most likely to merge”, but this avenue of queries has so far been unsuccessful.
