Pattern block play with heptagons! #21CenturyPB #iTeachMath
The main image in the upper left corner shows a radial design created with 21st Century Pattern Blocks. The design begins with six heptagons arranged around a central hexagon. Each heptagon uses the same block arrangement in the first layer. Surrounding this, a second layer consists of 12 additional heptagons, constructed using a different block arrangement. The first two images along the bottom show the two distinct heptagons used in the design. Both heptagons (arranged differently) use 2 gray darts, 2 yellow hexagons, and 3 blue rhombuses. The three images on the right show the progression of the design.

“In her dissent, Justice Elena Kagan wrote that the teacher training efforts would be harmed by the court’s action. “States have consistently represented that the loss of these grants will force them — indeed, has already forced them — to curtail teacher training programs,” she wrote.”

This novel offers a great perspective - from fourth graders who are seeing books they love get removed and how they fought back. An engaging story, and one that would make for some great classroom discussions! Includes a discussion and activity guide and connections to Common Core. Highly recommend!

“Our goal as teachers is not limited to being likable and approachable, though that can be very helpful. More important, it is to prioritize student capacity to grow as thinkers, learners, and scholars so that long after kids leave our classrooms, they believe strongly in their ability to be valuable contributors to their communities.” —Miriam Plotinsky, Instructional Specialist

Disability advocates have fought hard for better protections. “The lawsuit says that Section 504 goes against the United States Constitution. The lawsuit says that no one should have to follow any part of Section 504. If the 17 states win, this would be a disaster for people with disabilities.”

The highest compliment from someone who disagrees with you is not “You were right.” It’s “You made me think.” Good arguments help us recognize complexity where we once saw simplicity. The ultimate purpose of debate is not to produce consensus. It’s to promote critical thinking.
