NHS England has updated its guidance on single-sex service provision to state that trans patients should be assigned to wards based on their 'biological sex.'

The NHS is the sole provider of emergency care in the UK if you have a medical emergency, so you are effectively at risk while in the UK of them discerning you to be trans. Which may (and in at least one case has) result in death due to delayed medical care while they try and segregate you.

I had to get my birth reregistered for non-gender reasons (missing parent) last year. This apparently gets processed as a 'reregistration' and my birth certificate went from being handwritten to modern with a new registration date.

Just read this first person account by someone who worked in BBC headquarters during the UKSC ruling on how bad the anti-trans office culture is there. Horrifying to read and confirms an awful lot.

It's funny that this doesn't mention trans people at all. BBC accidentally writes news article which isn't transphobic but rather is simply trans-erasing I can't even decide if this is an improvement at this point How many 'honest concerns' would be added if the story had trans framing?

It turns out a lot of people really don't want to run a schema migration on their mind

I feel like it's basically between people who like the idea of making the universe as weird as possible and people who want the universe to be as boring as possible Or, those who enjoy the revelation of pre-existing complexity and nuance, versus those who want the world to be simpler than it is

Also they can't figure out what genitals you have from your face and it FREAKS THEM OUT But have they considered a person may in fact have not only one but multiple sets of genitals? Or none at all?

Intersex people must be mutilated at birth to fit the database schema They hate that our existence forces them to think
100 1
Erika @erika.zone · 15/10/2026
Updating the schema in their minds would mean having to do intellectual labor, which is the last thing they want to do and is thus experienced as a threat, resulting in a reversal; a demand the universe conform to a simplified model and evidence to the contrary must be eliminated

It's like the equivalent of an IBM System 360 mainframe admin of an ancient database using fixed-length records who loses it when confronted with the idea a user might have more than one email address, yells "Impossible!!" and goes full BOFH to argue it is literally impossible to accommodate

Erika @erika.zone · 15/10/2026
Like I think it's underestimated how much instinctive resentment and rejection of trans people existing comes from the fact that it causes a metric fuckton of things which previously had a 1:1 mapping in the enterprise-relational object model of humanity to break down

People who see 'pregnant person' or 'pregnant man' and go "lol, liberals" are basically an example of how Dunning-Kruger emboldens clueless people who think they know something about biology to make fun of people who actually know something about biology. It's tiring.

Emancipation law (in e.g. WA) is interesting here, as there's basically an established procedure that recognizes it may be instrumentally important for someone be able to terminate a parental relationship and obtain legal majority rights up to two years early (16+).
030 3
Erika @erika.zone · 15/10/2026
'Parental rights' can also only be 'child's rights exercised on their behalf, under presumption of a temporary lack of mental capacity'. A presumption which should, and must, also be rebuttable.
130 3
Erika @erika.zone · 15/10/2026
This presumption should be rebuttable. Seeking to suppress an sexual orientation or gender identity should be prima facie evidence to that effect.
140 4
Erika @erika.zone · 15/10/2026
'Parental rights' are absurd. A parent is a de facto guardian operating under the default presumption that they have the child's best interests at heart and who holds that moral authority to the sole extent that that is the case.

Erika @erika.zone · 15/10/2026
Read her words carefully. She's insinuating being trans is an acquired pathology rather than an innate condition, and that trans kids don't exist (the reality that must be absolutely denied) It's basically 'If the electroshock treatment didn't work I'm OK with some pitiable people having to be gay'

Burnham has imposed; 1. The trans segregation & toilet ban 2. The trans Section 28+ to segregate & bully children in school That makes Burnham the most transphobic Prime Minister ever, & by a very wide margin. The fact that he is saying nothing about makes him a *coward* as well as a transphobe.

Dear @nadiawhittomemp.bsky.social, You’re aware I hope that a simple amendment to the 2010 EA could fix this. The Supreme Court is NOT the supreme lawmaking body in this country… That’s Parliament. A parliament where your party has a huge majority. This discrimination is a choice, not an accident.

it is incredibly fucked up to think that we basically ritually perform non-consensual mutilation on intersex kids' genitals to make them conform to a database schema

The white British interpretation is that men becoming loud and animated means they might be about to get violent; but to them it's just normal self-expression.

Figures. I enjoyed travel memoir "Looking for Transwonderland" by Noo Saro-Wiwa, a Nigerian woman raised mostly in Britain. It opens at Heathrow; a group of Nigerian men were being 'rowdy' which Brits felt threatening. From her perspective, it was just how Nigerian men socialized with one another.

It feels like a major issue with the idea of birth certificates that they basically force you to have a permanent relationship with your 'AProvinceAB'... Many friends stuck in the same boat. We've wondered if US states could theoretically claim the right to issue re-domesticated birth records.

A legal name change is a license to state recognition that you've changed your name. Don't fall into the trap of thinking that a legal name has more validity than your actual name. The state has no right to be arbiter or authority on a human's identity, which flows always from within ourselves.

Erika @erika.zone · 11/10/2026
Your legal name is not your name. If you decide to change your name, that originates in your mind. The legal name change occurs as a consequence of that fact, because you demand it.

What is utterly deranged about this is that apparently, such corrections have been issued before, and last time the registry did it, the Home Office caught on and told them to stop doing them. It's hard for me to to comprehend the mindset that would compel a person to do this.

In "Idiocracy", the protagonist is made to register their name with the government to be issued an identity. The computer asks them to say their name. The protagonist, distracted, says "Not Sure". "Your name is Not Sure", says the computer. There is no back button. Meanwhile the UK:

Fundamentally, "biological sex" feels like a belief driven by a desire for reality to be simpler than it actually is. People must suffer, because they don't want to have to update their model of the world.

Is "Biological sex" a form of obscurantism? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obscura...
In the essay "Why I Am Not a Conservative" (1960), the economist Friedrich von Hayek said that political conservatism is ideologically unrealistic, because of the conservative person's inability to adapt to changing human realities and refusal to offer a positive political program that benefits everyone in a society. In that context, Hayek used the term obscurantism differently, to denote and describe the denial of the empirical truth of scientific theory, because of the disagreeable moral consequences that might arise from acceptance of fact.

Excessive and unskilled use of force is a sign of weakness, incompetence and panic, not strength. It is the behavior of regimes in death throes. We see similar panic in repressive religious institutions, their flock dwindling. But victory takes time to arrive, even if it is inertially inevitable.
100 1
Erika @erika.zone · 11/10/2026
Take heart from the fact that the panic suppression of the US and UK is not a sign of strength but weakness. The hyper-reality field, like the Combine repression field, is failing. Quite simply, they can't win at this point. There are too many of us. And we're not going back into the box.

It is a desperate last ditch effort to preserve cis-supremacy, by what is not so much transphobia as transdenialism. "Trans people don't exist; but to the extent that they do, they are Undesirables, and merely delusional." as official government policy.
100 1
Erika @erika.zone · 11/10/2026
What we see going on in the US and UK right now is a panic that the hyper-reality of 'biological sex' is being destroyed by evidence of actual reality, and trans kids and adults literally just existing openly.
100 1
Erika @erika.zone · 11/10/2026
"Trans people exist" is almost like a conspiracy theory but actually real: the government discovered something that threatened the constructed hyper-reality of society and then suppressed the evidence to maintain the fiction.

I'm reminded of Half-Life, where an experiment gone wrong causes an alien invasion of Earth. Momentarily you believe the arrival of U.S. soldiers will bring assistance. Then it transpires they intend to slay all humans within the facility as a cover-up operation.

Erika @erika.zone · 11/10/2026
Governments are perfectly capable of mass communication and public consensus change in a state of emergency. COVID messaging was an example of this. In practice, they only do it to protect their own skin.
100 1
Erika @erika.zone · 11/10/2026
Instead, the response was basically a cover-up operation. Kids continued to be taught of a binary, immutable sex, defined by gonads. Trans people (via Blanchard) were only allowed to transition if they could stealth pass, and avoid becoming overt evidence that refuted this social hyper-reality.

Erika @erika.zone · 11/10/2026
In a sane world, once the existence of transgender and intersex people became scientifically irrefutable, the model of reality used by society would have been updated.
