I was there the first time he played it! (I think.) Alpine Valley, 7/12/84?

R.E.M. broke up 15 years ago today. Back then, I wrote an essay for @salon.com about their life and legacy. www.salon.com/2011/09/22/w...

Apparently people are sharing this far and wide on social media, which I think is horrible. This could cripple ICE operations. PLEASE do not share this.

That conversation between you and Jon was fantastic. Maybe he spent a *little* too much time trying to redeem his production on the MC5's "Back in the U.S.A.," but I'm even glad that happened.

It turned out even better than we’d hoped. We got an absolute murderer’s row of speakers/moderators, all of whom were so generous with their time, stories, and insights. We knew at the time that he was sick, and we also knew that his work had all but fallen out of favor with today’s leading rock critics, so Dave’s 70th birthday in 2020 seemed the right time to do it. Something else happened in 2020, though, so we set it on the back burner. (2/?)

Just look at the tracklist! “Strawberry Fields,” “I Am the Walrus,” “Blue Jay Way,” “Penny Lane,” “Baby, You’re a Rich Man;” “Your Mother Should Know” (in the same vein as “When I’m Sixty-Four” but better) …

Last night my son made a compelling argument for Magical Mystery Tour as The Beatles’ best album. Once you set aside the rather silly “it’s not a real album” bit, he’s got a point.

As a friend of mine said, Balogun should sit out of his own accord, and Pochettino should resign after the tournament. Since that won’t happen, though, I think it’s OK for us to want victory for the other players on the players. If they win it all, which I doubt they will, it will be … (1/2)
