About to watch MARSHMALLOW on Shudder. People keep saying to watch it as blind as can be, so that’s what I’m doing. No synopsis or summary. Haven’t even seen a single frame of it. From what I can gather, it seems to be a sci-fi twist on the summer camp slasher.

Pop Arena’s Letterboxd review of "Wally Meets Popeye" is good mainly for the first paragraph, which mirrors my frustration with the discourse surrounding public domain horror and PD as a whole.

Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey broke people in a way that makes talking about the public domain impossible right now, unaware that they're stuck in a causality loop of their own making. A character enters the public domain, a bunch of low budget movies come out with that character as a blood-thirsty monster, people online throw a fuss, the movie gets attention and Tubi ad revenue, encouraging more of these movies. It's so frustrating to be talking about the public domain these days. You go "oh neat, Betty Boop is entering the public domain in 2026," and get the most eye rolling replies. "Oh, great, here come all the Betty Boop horror movies!" My brother in Christ, if you don't want those kind of movies, stop giving them the attention they're looking for!

My favorite comfort doc at the moment is Mail Order Murder: The Story Of W.A.V.E Productions. It's about this microbudget film studio that makes films based on whatever scripts people people give them. These films have zero taste, but this type of DIY filmmaking makes me feel fuzzy inside.
