Will an employee who believes the world is ending give two hoots about going above and beyond for their company? Another vote for the #EmployeeEngagement being a bunk concept. We are measuring the wrong things.

Reading End Times Fascism by @naomiaklein.bsky.social and @astra.bsky.social and I’ve just come across the stat about 4 in 10 U.S. adults believing that the end times are upon us. My question for #InternalCommunications and #EmployeeExperience and #HumanResources pros:

Claude making you log in to the exact platform where you purchased your Pro plan in order to cancel it pretty much captures everything I hate about Claude right now.

But can we talk about the reaction of the man to the right? 😮‍💨

I’m Ellen, a trauma-informed employee communications consultant, writer, and speaker. I moved to Portland, OR two years ago and dress up like male musicians on Halloween. I love when the phone rings in the background of “Honey Hi,” off Fleetwood Mac’s Tusk.

Woof, yes. That’s a more precise version of a similar question an old therapist once asked me when I felt guilty for having an “easy” divorce. I traced it back to being told I was spoiled as a child. The questions can be worthy exercises, but so tough. And sometimes you’re just tired of it all.

Same. “Who benefits from this thought?” is a question I have to ask myself every single day.

As somebody who grew up during the era in which there was a massive public push to reduce teen pregnancy, it’s absolutely wild to me to see people on Fox News now complaining that not enough teens are getting pregnant.

I clipped this. It’s worth listening to in full. I’m thrilled Bouie brought up polls about maintained support for DEI from 2025. I’m looking at Pew polling about BLM from the same time frame and triple checked it because public support also hasnt declined to the degree some discourse would suggest

Employees who have experienced trauma, #Uncertainty, and #ChronicStress will benefit from choice in how, when, and where they receive #Communications. I give an example of how I did this, leading global employee comms at a tech company with 90k employees, three channels, and a simple tech stack.

My latest Substack discusses the #TraumaInformed principle of choice as it applies to #InternalCommunications and #EmployeeCommunications. Basically, if you have an #Intranet, #EmployeeExperience platform, #AllHands, or #Newsletter strategy at your organization, you have a great opportunity.

I'm sure this take has been took already but it's worth saying: the obscene, cynical performance of "It's about being against plagiarism" re Arday is absurd when the entire academic superstructure is being reorganised around mandating plagiarism using advanced plagiarism automation software

Watched Lewis Lapham’s The American Ruling Class on Criterion last night and now I feel compelled to quit my business and write the definitive oral history of its production. I’ve never seen anything quite like it. Also, found what the lead actors were up to on LinkedIn. Quite the coda.

Ok this is actually/maybe gaming that would translate well for employee audiences (tho the time suck would need to be considered). At the same time I keep wondering when betting is going to supplant gamification as the next big thing for comms to ripoff.

On one of our early dates, I remarked it felt like the flashback episode, where you’re midway through the first season and see people happy in the “before.” He said, “Flash forward to the season finale. You have my permission to light my dead body on fire and catapult it to the enemy.” I love him.

You used to be able to google the time of the sunset, and Google would give you the exact time right on top every single time. Thankfully, with artificial intelligence, you can now ask Google what time the sun will set and it will conveniently tell you "I don't know."

I deeply regret reading this piece--but also feel compelled to point out that it contains this absolutely spectacular example of Both Sides-ing it. An NYT all-timer "influencers who are accused of human trafficking and rape" are "functionally equivalent" to feminists
"Heteropessimism isn’t just for women. Men like the white nationalist Nick Fuentes and the Tate brothers — influencers who are accused of human trafficking and rape — also promote a form of heteropessimism. Their basic argument is that women are not worth the time or are something to dominate and discard, that there is something wrong with them and men are better off alone. These manosphere figures are far less thoughtful and far more hateful in their wording than feminist heteropessimists, but their argument is functionally equivalent. Both groups argue that the other half is just bad. Give up, they tell us. Both are willing to let the cycle of loneliness and atomization continue."

5) One line that says trauma-informed leadership springs from trauma-informed work in healthcare, education, and social services is not enough. Where is discussion of general principles? Research?

Ellen Griley @equilibrious.bsky.social · 03/05/2026
4) McKinsey citing its own research that 30% of employees have experienced a traumatic event is, uh, something. Research exists that puts that number closer to 70.

Ellen Griley @equilibrious.bsky.social · 03/05/2026
3) It’s wild to see McKinsey conveniently forget its role in advising companies to prioritize profit at all costs and create ruthless work cultures through performance management layoffs.

Ellen Griley @equilibrious.bsky.social · 03/05/2026
2) Two things can be true at once: A) It’s good to see recognition of how trauma, stress, and nervous system response show up inside workplaces. B) Casual reports like this that do not address the harm caused by organizations are harmful in and of themselves.

Ellen Griley @equilibrious.bsky.social · 03/05/2026
McKinsey preparing a 12-page report on trauma-informed leadership without citing anything but its own research and framing it as how leaders can “help their organizations metabolize strain” is exactly the thing I’m concerned about when I talk about the trauma-informed industrial complex. 🧵

That there even was momentary consideration for the #WHCA going on speaks to how completely numb people in positions of power are on the inside. This Amazon telling people to keep working after a coworker collapses. This is prioritizing business continuity through natural disasters.

I wonder if this “water for me, not for thee” privilege for data centers in droughts is going to impact AI sabotage efforts that were reported recently. I cannot emphasize enough how teams leading transformation efforts must take a beat, read the room, and adjust expectations for adoption.
