Now that we live online, it's inevitable that some form of strong age verification is coming to address real safety problems. But doing it in an inclusive way that doesn't exacerbate class divides, lock users into brands, protects free expression, and prevents censorship is very, very hard.

If they had legit reasons they'd give them. Whether it's a personal mission by a bad actor (definitely a factor) or just a general preparation for the new fascism (not unlikely), or both, we're easy targets and should expect it to continue. Nothing new about this game to us. But it won't be forever.

Guys, make Mastodon accounts if you haven't. Masto also had a bad actor torpedoing the zoo community but the decentralized nature of the platform made it a lot less effective at actually erasing us. This place is only going to get worse so make sure you have somewhere to go.
