I'm all for upping bike infrastructure but we're a country with winter 6-8 months a year and an average home-to-work commute time of like an hour driving so I don't think bikes are gonna be the panace some people seem to think they'll be.

What I know: 1. They are in a legal strike position as of October 19th. 2. The province has offered a raise of about 40 cents per year for the next 4 years.

Do we distinguish between “overtaking” and “undertaking” here? IME, undertaking would mean passing on the right, while overtaking would be on the left. That would mean the painted bike lanes are fine, because they’re on the right, and would be “undertaking”, not “overtaking”.

Bird is supposed to provide helmets on their devices, but I feel like they never replenished the stock of helmets after last winter's hiatus. I haven't seen any devices with helmets recently.

I agree with this! I used to walk more than cycle, and now it's quite the opposite. I started wearing some lined deer hide mittens that my godparents bought me in high school, having carried them through life mostly unworn for 15+ years before that.

End of October seemed late from my memory, so I checked my calendar. I have been vaccinated on: Oct 20 (2023), Oct 16 (2024) and Oct 15 (2025). Presumably booking started a week or so before that, so any day now really?!

I thought people did this to 'beat the traffic' on Bayers (without just being illegal about it by using the bus lane). More than 1x I've been nearly R-hooked by a driver turning R onto Romans, and then caught up with the same driver trying to turn R from Vaughn to Bayers, blocking the crosswalk.

Wow! It’s a much friendlier process than we have here. You only need to collect signatures in subsequent years if there is a complaint, and even then you only require just greater than 50% in favour. ottawa.ca/en/living-ot...

Yes. And apparently so many of HRM’s no parking zones exist for no good reason. This urban planner seems totally fine with giving up excessive amounts of public space to vehicle storage.

I lived in England when it was still a part of the EU, and there were MANY multi story car parks in the city centre. But apparently Europe doesn’t have to do those big disruptive parking lots because they just allow parking anywhere you can fit your car. 😂
