I'm deep down the rabbit-hole on Göbekli Tepe, a Neolithic ritual site with these carved columns, the oldest known megaliths. And I love the carvings. ART from 10,000 years ago. This one (Pillar 12), my dear friends, is decorated with DUCKS. 😀🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆

"Building C feature at least two, more likely three, concentric walls. It has a round-oval ground plan and has a diameter of some 30 metres. As such, it is the largest of the excavated megalithic monumental buildings so far discovered at Göbekli Tepe. Its two central T-shaped pillars appear to have been destroyed in antiquity, when a large robber pit was excavated into the building and the two monoliths intentionally destroyed. It is still unclear when this destruction occurred, but most likely in the prehistoric (Neolithic?) period. Remarkable for this building and also for Building D, is that the two central pillars were slotted into two carefully carved pedestals. These pedestals had been worked from the natural limestone bedrock. The floor of this building is the equally carefully smoothed natural rock surface of the limestone plateau. The western central pillar was partially restored in 2009. On its left broad side there is the depiction of a large fox (in low relief). The bottom part of the eastern shaft was found in-situ, i.e. still inserted in its carved podest. This pillar is still preserved to a height of 2 metres, though its original height was probably around 5 metres. It appears that this pillar had also been subjected to burning at the time of the deliberate destruction, as testified by its flaky appearance. All other T-shaped pillars belonging to Building C are found at more or less regular intervals within the two inner concentric walls of the building. Eleven pillars have so far been found in the inner ring, while the second ring features seven pillars. This number would very likely increase if excavations were continued. It dates from the 10th-9th mill. BC"

Two weeks ago, I visited the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization. It houses 22 mummies including the Pharaohs Hatshepsut, Seti I and II, and Ramses II - VI and IX. In the entrance to the basement with the mummies, a multimedia show displays where the mummies were buried. (1/x)

While researching the history of bringing bikes on buses, I just discovered something: in the mid 20th century, buses in Australia and New Zealand had hooks on the front or back for mothers to hang prams off! Bus pram hooks were apparently a unique NZ+Aus phenomenon, found nowhere else in the world.

Dresden's tram museum took its MAN tram from 1913 for a spin today while the police demonstrated how the transitway helps them get faster to where they need to be. The #tram was converted and modernised into a single-ended tram in 1966. It was last used in regular service in 1975. 🚋🚍 🤝 🚓🚑🚒

Taormina-Giardini station is located at the foot of the hill Taormina sits on. It's neo-gothic building was constructed from 1926-28. A city bus takes me up the switchbacks to the town nearly 250m above the station.

Rolltreppe und daneben Treppe am Hauptbahnhof Freiburg (Breisgau) von Gleis 1 zur Stadtbahnbrücke. Die Vorderseiten der Rolltreppe sind jeweils in einer anderen Farbe des Regenbogens bemalt. Zwei Personen, die die Rolltreppe fotografieren, sind von hinten aufgenommen. Auf Gleis 1 fährt gerade ein grüner Flixtrain-Zug ein.

Okt. 2024, Cádiz: Ich besteige morgens um 7 einen Bus nach Algeciras. Er schafft es eine knappe halbe Stunde Verspätung aufzubauen, aber die Umsteigezeit zum Zug ist dennoch ausreichend. Der Media Distancia bringt mich zum Bahnhof Cortes de la Frontera im Tal des Guadiaro. #bahnzeit #travelbytrain

Heute: Eine Rundfahrt durch den Schwarzwald mit Bus und Bahn. Zuerst mit Freiburger S2 und Bus 240 nach Furtwangen. Wie in vielen Orten in der Gegend dreht sich alles um Uhren und Fasnet. Während ich mit dem Konzept 'Zeit' vertraut bin, fremdle ich mit der Fastnachtskultur.

Haus, auf dessen Eingangsbereich eine große Uhr mit römischen Ziffern prangt. Sie zeigt 12 Uhr. Ein Schild bewirbt antike Uhren.

Brunnen mit Karnevalsfiguren. Eine Figur ist mit Kleidung geschmückt. Außerdem sind rund um den Brunnen bunte Wimpel angebracht.

Habe gestern mal wieder den Kybfelsen in Freiburg (Breisgau) erklommen. Auch mit Schnee nett.

Wanderer sitzen auf dem beschneiten Kybfelsen mit Blick auf Hügel des Schwarzwalds.

Weiter geht's mit dem Oktober in Spanien: DAMAS bringt mich mit einem Katamaran von Cádiz nach El Puerto de Santa María an der Mündung des Guadalete. Alfonso X. hat die Stadt im 13. Jh. von den Mauren erobert und die Burg bauen lassen. Zum Dank gibt es eine Statue mit pflanzlicher Haartracht.
