It was great to see so many people show up to ride a new public transit line. For a lot of them, it may also have been the first time they saw the New Administrative Capital since there is currently little reason to go there unless you work there.

Riding the monorail on the first day wasn't enough for me. On the second day, the crowds came. It was a public holiday, fares are still free (apparently until Saturday), many families came to ride it and a lot of selfies were taken by passengers.

The 56.5 km monorail line will extend from the metro station at Cairo International Stadium in Nasr City through New Cairo to the New Administrative Capital. Another (separate) monorail line west of the Nile is under construction to connect 6th of October City with Giza.

After the official inauguration at the end of Ramadan, the National Authority for Tunnels (responsible for urban mobility projects) has announced yesterday that the Monorail East of the Nile will open to the public between the stations Marshal Tantawy and Justice City tomorrow at 6:00.

Two weeks ago, I visited the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization. It houses 22 mummies including the Pharaohs Hatshepsut, Seti I and II, and Ramses II - VI and IX. In the entrance to the basement with the mummies, a multimedia show displays where the mummies were buried. (1/x)

Dresden's tram museum took its MAN tram from 1913 for a spin today while the police demonstrated how the transitway helps them get faster to where they need to be. The #tram was converted and modernised into a single-ended tram in 1966. It was last used in regular service in 1975. 🚋🚍 🤝 🚓🚑🚒
