armz wanted me to post this little visual drabble i wrote so like here goes nothing i guess. yeaaaa

title text: "WHY IS THE BEAN BODY BETTER? (in my opinion)"

first paragraph: "The bean-shaped body is able to convey the idea of a faux-neck that connects the body to the head a lot better than what's little more than an unedited ellipse slapped onto a vector drawing.

Additionally, if used incorrectly, the ellipse body can cause a lot of unnecessary posing issues if one would want to do more complex poses with a character that has more than what I like to call "stud legs" (direct examples being Nuzzie and Bunsen). It disconnects the rest of their limbs from their body quite a bit, which can lead to the overall design looking pretty off!"

second paragraph: "Oh yeah, to make myself clear: I'm NOT saying that the one on the right is inherently "bad design", it works very well on Bunsen and Nuzzie, for example!

When it comes to a character like Luna, who has slightly more complicated proportions (i.e. their legs and such), it helps to differenciate them from the two who are supposed to be twins.

His "coat" is supposed to be his wings being connected with V-shaped clips that form into an X, but honestly, that part is pretty weak compared to other suggestions I have to improve his design. It was just a fun detail I decided to add, I guess

Another thing, I did want to make his design slightly more colorful but also somewhat monochrome at the same time, due to Kepler and Caroline having vastly different uses of color (V-Kepler is mostly colored, V-Caroline uses color very scarcely)

His design is also purposefully very bottom-heavy, compared to his semi-top-heavy regular counterpart. his legs are a lot more elongated, making it easier to move around on-foot The X motif in his design is more spiky and hostile-looking, so that's cool too I think

and theyre used as Isaac's main source of destructive strength. Continuing with the theme, they also subtly call back to the diamond sword that he'd crafted early on in the series/novel, having already some level of skill using the weapon passed onto his infected form

"First things first; I don’t like my past redesign at all. It felt far too separated from the ACTUAL V-Isaac to be classified as any "redesign" of sorts, I’ve looked back on it several times and a lot of my criticisms felt pretty unfair with how much I separated the design from the original.
The actual problem with V-Isaac’s design is that he doesn't necessarily look imposing, moreso like a mess of various shapes put together. As a result, his shape language is pretty confusing and looks like it's trying to go into a more square or triangular direction, but ends up falling far too much into his regular form, in fact, in stark comparison to the rest of the trio! For instance, Kepler strays incredibly far from their original non-infected design with the puppet theming, so does Caroline with her animalistic whale-like figure, leaving Isaac to fall flat into a generic monsterfied version of himself. he's recognizable, sure, but that comes at the cost of not being very unique in his own right.
Following this, I decided to directly invert Isaac’s appearance on its head, sticking more to the original infected design with some changes to help echo his inspirations a lot better.
Being corrected for (thank you) and reading on the wiki that part of his theming with the trio is that he's loosely inspired by Jiminy Cricket made me really want to lean into that! Though, the way I chose to do that is a little more different than you'd expect."
