I just hit 200k miles in my car a couple of weeks ago. Today, I have the cover off to adjust the valves, but I'm proud to say that it looks so damn clean because of regular oil changes. This car has given me 154k miles so far, and here's hoping we can make it to 300k 🤞

I think the next example is that Flagstaff is a dark sky city. What originally started as a drive to help the local observatories quickly turned into a quality of life thing that locals will defend vehemently. How many places are there where you can stand in the middle of downtown and see stars?

I had to stew on this one for a bit. I see where you're coming from, but I also see what wanton disregard Texas et al has for natural features if it's inconvenient for commerce. Flagstaff feels like a city built around and amidst a mountain and a forest; the Texas mentality would just bulldoze it.

We were out exploring backroads for shits and giggles and accidentally drove right up on a herd of about thirty elk! I don't have pictures or videos because I was absolutely entranced by the sight and listening to them grunt, bleat, and bugle at each other. I definitely won't forget that soon.

Fifteen years ago, in a fit of boredom, I made a silly little label for an e-brake valve in Grand Canyon Railway's venerable GP7. I was stuck babysitting a work train in the middle of nowhere while everyone else went into town for lunch. Yesterday I received confirmation that it's still there!

We've been in Flagstaff for about an hour. I keep catching peeks of the peaks in between trees, buildings, around curves... gods, I have missed it. Living in north Texas has really made me appreciate what I used to see every day, and what flat, concrete garbage I see now.

I tried to explain a very nuanced opinion about why I'm EXTREMELY jaded about 9/11 to my boomer mother-in-law and was *immediately* accused of being a terrorist sympathizer. She furthered my point AND played the stereotype of a person that made me so jaded simultaneously. Incredible stuff.
