🌏 Weekly ENGAGE Climate Literacy Brief 🌎 Climate science is most useful when we understand what kind of information we're looking at and how far that information can reasonably travel into a decision.

More climate information doesn't automatically produce better climate decisions . . . 🧠 AI took the main stage at NYC Climate Week, but as our ability to model and process climate data expands, it becomes even more critical to understand assumptions, uncertainty, scale, and context.

A quick Google search will tell you that it's about understanding your influence on climate and climate's influence on you. That's not wrong, but it's also not the whole story. . .

Op-ed by Dr. Twila Moon, deputy lead scientist at the National Snow and Ice Data Center @drtwilamoon.bsky.social on why the Arctic Report Card is so important and what's lost with NOAA's termination of support. #Arctic thehill.com/opinion/ener...
Our Arctic Report Card editor team and dedicated authors and supporters will do all we can to ensure critical, timely, integrated Arctic data still makes it to the decision makers, educators, and community leaders who need it. But without federal support, the task is harder, the data access systems built over two decades will go unused a trusted data source will become stale. This puts U.S. Arctic leadership at risk.

"Climate change is the ultimate shared experience, and I mean, we might say death is another one of these ultimate shared experiences, but we don't get to talk about it with each other once we're on the other side, whereas climate change, we're all in it every single day together. . ."

Not only does defunding make the tools we've built with NOAA less valuable, but it also requires more *work* to get those same data out. 😮‍💨 Thank you to supporters, who help us move forward.

Climate literacy is emerging as a highly relevant and largely underdeveloped skill for organizations across the board. Teams that integrate climate science into their strategic plans prepare for future climate realities, potential consequences, and position themselves to seize opportunities. 💡

Interdisciplinary research efforts like this really helped me to step into more systems-focused science. The results are insights that go from ice to wildlife to coastal ocean processes. 🙌

Appreciate this reminder - we live in an "AND" world when it comes to climate. Rebuild from disaster AND apply energy efficiency in design. Rethink local crops AND implement changes to protect soil health. Build community emergency response team AND create safe non-car travel routes. And, and, and!

In Puerto Rico, water rationing measures have taken effect as a result of infrastructure issues and severe drought. This map illustrates rainfall deficits across much of Puerto Rico over the previous 60 days, as of July 20, 2026. 🚰 These are conditions organizations may need to plan for.

I really like this because it also helps people become more familiar with how our climate future works. There's no science crystal ball, but we sure do know a lot and people can plan and act using that information. Insight instead of certainty.

*Talking solutions is critical* - yes! But what if you don't know where to start or look for solutions? I often see people stop at "I don't know". That's were conversation, learning, and science-based tools come into play. Our work @engageclimatesci.bsky.social is about getting the gears going. ⚙️
