The UK just recorded its hottest May ever. @thecccuk.bsky.social warns 40°C summers could become routine. The government's response? Planning reforms that make it harder for councils to act on #ClimateChange. As Dan Stone, CSE's policy officer, puts it: “This seems like madness.”

We have provisionally broken the UK record for highest daily minimum temperature in May... again 😮 Temperatures didn't fall below 21.3°C overnight at Kenley Airfield, making it a 'tropical night' (no lower than 20°C). Remarkably, the record was also broken yesterday.

About 20 years ago, lighting was the single largest use of electricity in American homes. But energy-efficient lightbulbs has shrunk the category to sixth place! www.nytimes.com/interactive/...
A vertical stacked area chart titled "Residential electricity by use" shows the dramatic decline of lighting's share of American home electricity consumption from 2000 to 2025, measured in quadrillions of BTU. The chart highlights "Lighting" in a bright lime green band, which starts as the largest single category at the top of the stack in 2000 (around 1 quadrillion BTU out of a 3.3 total). After roughly 2010, the lighting band begins a steep and steady descent, narrowing significantly and dropping through the stack until it becomes the sixth-largest category by 2018. By 2025, lighting represents a thin, stable sliver near the bottom of the chart, while other gray-shaded categories like cooling, heating, water heating, refrigeration, and dryers maintain or expand their relative shares. Header text above the chart notes that energy-efficient lightbulbs are responsible for this shift.
