Ross Llewallyn @enduringbeta.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Also, where is your article mentioned at the top? It wasn’t in the show notes. 100
Ross Llewallyn @enduringbeta.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Aaron, thanks for hosting this conversation and for pushing on some things. I hope Steve takes the criticism and suggestions seriously and that this could be a positive pivot point for the show. 110
Ross Llewallyn @enduringbeta.bsky.social · 01/10/2026I suppose the importance of my humanism rivals or exceeds the importance of my skepticism these days. And the political angle to affect positive change for both is so obviously via the Democratic Party in the US that to intentionally avoid saying that is to miss a lot. 100
Ross Llewallyn @enduringbeta.bsky.social · 01/10/2026I’m another generation, but I was also a straight cis white guy raised in a conservative environment. I moved further left than them, I think justifiably so under humanism, and my behavior is different. I just didn’t vibe with the blind spots I kept seeing on the show that I got better at. 100
Ross Llewallyn @enduringbeta.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Steve has said in the past that he/they appreciate that the show is steady amidst whatever turmoil is out there. I could see them throwing their weight around to affect change on humanist topics as much as scientific, but that’s just not been the priority. Which is disappointing. 100
Ross Llewallyn @enduringbeta.bsky.social · 01/10/2026I was the one who advocated for a code of conduct on the Discord, which eventually happened but not until after I left the community. I appreciate you Aaron pushing on the need to name the values they hold: it’s about saying they’re important and worthy of being held accountable for. 110
Ross Llewallyn @enduringbeta.bsky.social · 01/10/2026But the “politically neutral” angle grated on me over time for reasons like you brought up: the quiet politics and the genuine humanist values create a noticeable gap where I wanted more of Cara’s valuable perspective adopted by the crew. Yet the posture remained largely the same. 110
Ross Llewallyn @enduringbeta.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Thank you and Steve for this episode. I know I’m late to listening. Steve and the SGU were extremely formative to me, a longtime supporter, and I will forever be in awe of his tireless, steady work promoting good thinking on a huge range of topics. 100

Ross Llewallyn @enduringbeta.bsky.social · 12/08/2026It’s hard to take this objection in good faith when your sarcastic quote doesn’t seem to match anything AMCA has said or done. Rob literally discussed concerns about the future of EA games on Remap. They’re aware. This feels like a “gotcha” attempt and little more. 010

Ross Llewallyn @enduringbeta.bsky.social · 10/07/2026Back in the day folks found out that Google created fake streets that didn't make sense in order to catch other services stealing their data. I don't know if they do that anymore. But this is such a different thing: these are heavily-trafficked streets that just don't work like they show on the app. 100

Ross Llewallyn @enduringbeta.bsky.social · 10/07/2026Hey #atl folks and #tech folks, do folks know why Google Maps would show such a weird, winding layout for Edgewood Ave by Georgia State? Conjecture, but could they be relying on AI assistance that's going wrong? Overfitting based on photos or driver behavior? 100
Ross Llewallyn @enduringbeta.bsky.social · 07/07/2026I don't know who else to attribute thanks and props but the candidates themselves in my ignorance, but they keep satisfying me, which says something. They are basically never on lists of weak Dems that get Bluesky ire. 000

Ross Llewallyn @enduringbeta.bsky.social · 07/07/2026I understand that in other nations where this is in place, hiring is also more selective. It feels of a similar trade-off to unionization. I lament this downside, but the stability and industry work force rebalance that might emerge seems better than this instant🫰 decimation of livelihood. 000
Ross Llewallyn @enduringbeta.bsky.social · 07/07/2026It doesn't have to be this way. Firing can be legislated to be more ethical, thereby incentivizing companies to be mindful in hiring. Reduce the boom and bust cycles and the heartbreak, turmoil. 110
