Hey #atl folks and #tech folks, do folks know why Google Maps would show such a weird, winding layout for Edgewood Ave by Georgia State? Conjecture, but could they be relying on AI assistance that's going wrong? Overfitting based on photos or driver behavior?

Just visited Kelvingrove Museum in #Glasgow where they repatriated a Lakota Ghost Dance shirt to its people in the 90s. I was impressed with the whole museum's approach to artifacts and narrative, and it serves as a model for how exhibits and curation can be in the future. This is a replica.

I visited this location in order to #GetVaccinated against flu and Covid, at the very CVS where the gunman took those shots at the CDC. It was the only location available today, but it turned out to be deeply meaningful to do so in this place. #atl #atlanta

Local journalist Mario Guevara still in ICE custody

Monday marked one month of imprisonment for local journalist Mario Guevara, since he was arrested in DeKalb County while covering an anti-ICE protest on June 14. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is holding Guevara, a Salvadorian national with legal authorization to work in the United States, at the Federal Correctional Institution in Atlanta.

Since our July 9 update on Guevara’s case, the Gwinnett County Solicitor-General on July 10 dropped the three misdemeanor traffic charges he faced there. The Committee to Protect Journalists on Monday reiterated its call for his release. He is the only journalist in the United States currently jailed as a result of his reporting activities.

I bet it's not an accident that the JSON parsing here for "race" and "gender" fields couldn't be handled by Copilot, but "hairColor" and everything after it can be. I don't mind the likely intention (avoid AI-generated bigotry), though I'm skeptical that the impact is sufficient. #coding #ai

We have 2 hamsters 🐹 and know that if we reach into their homes to get them, they bite and defend. If we create noises that they're curious to explore outside, then they accept a scoop up to hang out.

Shoul-out to the fellow cafe goer who knew my shirt symbol as from the Equal Justice Initiative @eji.org. He's from Montgomery. It represents a deeply impactful memorial and work of art. Glad I could share I was there 2 weeks ago for a history book talk. #ATL
