Nick Perbix on waivers and now I have to open up the worst drafts ever written and get this story ready to go in a few days even though it's nowhere near a final draft. cruel world.

The Predators really said we know we have four former huskies in the org, we're making sure to make it three!

000

Giselle Velazquez @emptyrink.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

This preds game was very bad even for preseason. I feel like it will be a Milwaukee Admirals season now

000

Giselle Velazquez @emptyrink.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

St. Cloud sweeps UConn to start the season! Team looked great all weekend!! Sauriol, Sundelin, and Kyrkkö with great performances once again

010

Giselle Velazquez @emptyrink.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

UConn scores to cut the lead to 2 :/

000

Giselle Velazquez @emptyrink.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

second period was great goals wise but the penalties at the end weren't

000

Giselle Velazquez @emptyrink.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

lol you'll never guess what happened now... another penalty!!!! idk what's happening now

000

Giselle Velazquez @emptyrink.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

four on four for some time, then 10 second uconn pp, and now four on four again as the period is finishing up. both huskies are like we're just going to exchange penalties now

000

Giselle Velazquez @emptyrink.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

also preds are playing some of the worst music

000

Giselle Velazquez @emptyrink.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

Something that I missed in yesterday's game that I saw in the recap was there were no penalties in the game. There have been a few today lol

000

Giselle Velazquez @emptyrink.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

Scored again!!! Everyone's favorite defender Marie Moran!!!! That had to be like a minute after Payton's goal. 4-1 lead

000

Giselle Velazquez @emptyrink.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

Payton Holloway goal!! 3-1 lead! St Cloud keeps finding ways to score this weekend!

000

Giselle Velazquez @emptyrink.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

I'm busy writing and preparing for something big next week so I'm a little behind on the game. Also have the preds going bc we have to shut up about Jack Ahcan being on the bubble of making the team omg

000

Giselle Velazquez @emptyrink.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

2-1 lead after the first for scsu. Alice Sauriol with her third goal of the weekend already! What a great start to the season by the captain!

000

Giselle Velazquez @emptyrink.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

St Cloud already leading 4 mins into the game thanks to Sofianna Sundelin!!

today on random little things in hockey that i just think are neat: jenniina nylund switching handedness on weak side faceoffs nearly leading directly to a brynäs goal (and they would actually score about twenty seconds following this clip)

St. Cloud wins 4-2 in game one of the season. Great defense in the final seconds there to prevent UConn scoring with the player advantage!

Giselle Velazquez @emptyrink.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

Sofianna Sundelin adds a goal of her own. Lead back to 2!!

010

Giselle Velazquez @emptyrink.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

Ok, well now it's a one goal game which is not the worst but not ideal. 3-2.

000

Giselle Velazquez @emptyrink.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

Olympic medalist Laura Zimmermann with a goal to extend the lead!! 3-1 St. Cloud!! Wow!!! The play before that was sloppy so I'm glad this rush worked out better!

000

Giselle Velazquez @emptyrink.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

Sauriol with another goal! I was looking at her to have a big year, and she's off to a great start! Huskies lead!!

Giselle Velazquez @emptyrink.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

Didn't love the start by St. Cloud but Alice Sauriol found a way to tie up the game before the end of the first

011

Giselle Velazquez @emptyrink.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

St. Cloud allowed a UConn goal 2:20 into the game... I missed this team so much 🫶

Collaborating with someone I'm writing about by letting them see my list of people *I* think should be part of the story. I am excited to see how fucking wrong I am. I will die of embarrassment if of the 25 the three coaches are the only correct ones 😭

Giselle Velazquez @emptyrink.bsky.social · 28/08/2026

I did what is definitely the best interview for a story ever today. I shall not share more. I had my posts on the other site used against me in the funniest way possible.

Giselle Velazquez @emptyrink.bsky.social · 23/08/2026

About to reach out to a player myself and ask if he really signed with a team bc that damn team won't announce anything!!! One of my biggest pet peeves about the ECHL!!

LMFAO get a load of this fuckin guy.

This, after all, was one of several columns of mine that had been spiked at the Seattle Times.
One was a piece questioning whether players for the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team were really the victims of discrimination in their equal-pay lawsuit. Another was a more general column on cancel culture in sports. The last, written shortly after George Floyd’s death, implored people to listen to state-champion basketball coach Mike Bethea — a black man urging the public not to stereotype cops. The common theme? All of these challenged prevailing newsroom narratives and likely would have triggered the outrage mob.

Spent another weekend with the Frost at their women's camp and had so much fun! Instead of a camp recap (like my first story) I ended up writing about how much this camp meant to the players and the southern California women's hockey scene. Excited to find ways to build off this with everyone I met!

Embarrassingly have to decline invitations to games with friends bc I can't afford to attend. Can't go to a sports media conference bc I can't afford to attend either. I hope this writing thing works out at some fucking point.
