#transsverige #trans

What I wish I could help cis allies understand about the lives of their trans loved ones: you cannot afford to wait for the trans people in your lives to ask you for help. So many of us are already scared of being too much, too loud, or too needy. Too many trans people suffer in silence out of fear.

step 1. adopt an anti-trans position step 2. get criticized for that position step 3. lose election step 4. blame trans people for the loss then just repeat forever i guess?

It's always troubling to see how little trans girls and women get centered in transphobic rulings and patterns that directly target us. "The problem is this will affect cis women" is the usual refrain, which reflects a lack of certainty about defending trans girls and women AS girls and women.

While I absolutely agree with you, we also don’t need to look to the theoretical consequences to cis women in order to see the harm this bill causes. This WILL result in worsening mental health conditions for trans children, who are already one of the vulnerable groups in the country today.

Kavanaugh's decision on trans people in sports contains a footnote saying it applies only to trans women, by the way. So trans women can be legally segregated (and his reasoning isn't limited to sports), but he explicitly says it doesn't apply to trans men in any gendered spaces at all.

It is simultaneously sad and beautiful that -both historically and today- the support of trans people falls to the shoulders of other trans people. Beautiful because it shows the way marginality can drive people to rise to the occasion; sad that only the marginalized consistently step up to help.

Almost every trans person I know -myself included- has either been unhoused themselves or has a close friend who was or is unhoused. Places like Portland or Seattle are “safe” spaces for trans people, but the PNW hates to do anything to meet our material realities.

this was a political show-trial. the judge hand-picked the jury himself. guilt was presumed from the start they are all victims of state violence, and they deserve whatever support we as a community can give them

“Trans people should flee red states,” has more or less been the liberal response to the years long legal oppression and elimination of rights for trans folks. Okay, cool, so you’re funding relocation programs? You’ll provide transitional housing? You’ll pay our rent? Give us jobs? Yeah, right.

In discussing with coworkers today how English seems to lack language to describe hoe persistently and utterly exhausted the last 3 months have left me in all aspects, we finally came up with a term that captures it. I am bleached. Divested of color and vibrancy through caustic outside influence.

Otroligt att, som en historiker, jag tänkte aldrig på just den här punkten! I vissa sett så är det ju mycket bättre nu än förut. Det är ju synd att det kommer med så mycket hat mot oss transpersoner, men ändå är det någonting att fira!

Even beyond the massive impact that this fundraiser has in supporting trans rights, the fact that my favorite MTG creator has chosen to use his platform to support people like me overwhelms me in ways I cannot begin to articulate. I am so grateful to the MTG community for being my home for so long.

In using this quote I want to also acknowledge that Marilyn Frye is in many ways deeply problematic in her takes of transness. At the same time, I do appreciate this quote for the way it highlights some of the roots of trans misogyny.

They see themselves in us, and our objectification makes them fear it could happen to them if they fall outside the borders of masculinity. Rather than deal with that fear, they hate us all the louder in public, while craving us all the more behind closed doors. 2/2

This is why trans misogyny is so violent: we are viewed as feminine sex objects that can be fetishized, while simultaneously rejecting our place in the male homo-romantic patriarchy. In the eyes of cishet men, we transform into that which they use, while reminding them of that which they love. 1/2
Quote saying “To say that straight men are heterosexual is only to say that they engage in sex (fucking exclusively with the other sex, i.e., women). All or almost all of that which pertains to love, most straight men reserve exclusively for other men. The people whom they admire, respect, adore, revere, honor, whom they imitate, idolize, and form profound attachments to, whom they are willing to teach and from whom they are willing to learn, and whose respect, admiration, recognition, honor, reverence and love they desire… those are, overwhelmingly, other men. In their relations with women, what passes for respect is kindness, generosity or paternalism; what passes for honor is removal to the pedestal. From women they want devotion, service and sex.

Heterosexual male culture is homoerotic; it is man-loving.”

We can’t know the future, or if things will be as bad as they were in Nazi Germany, or during the Lavender Panic, but if so, make it impossible to erase you. Make it so future generations know your story. Make your ghost haunt the legacies of the monsters who worked to destroy you.

If you don’t already, start a journal, be it written, typed, drawn or audio. Honestly document your experiences, feelings, and the world around you. Let loved ones know where you keep your story and their backups —side note: if you can, back shit up!— so if the worst happens, they will survive. 2/?

A reminder to trans folks: with the ramp up of government erasure of trans documents and data, it’s SO important to remember that one thing they can’t easily erase is your story. I don’t mean that in a metaphorical, “you’re valid” kind of way. I mean it literally. Record your experiences. 1/?

You own books because you think they look pretty on your shelf, and because you like the feel of paper. I own books because I have a compulsive need to write notes in the margins that I will likely never refer back to. We are not the same.

Pet peeve of mine is when writers —especially comic writers— create an innocent or inherently good character and then either kill them to drive the narrative forward, or else the character will inevitably trade their hope and sincerity for cynicism. Like, let kind people exist in fiction, FFS.
