Did I miss a meeting where we all agreed to refer to it as the GFC? Keep thinking people are talking about an off-brand chicken shop.

Once again, I am asking Google to use search data to create an app that shows parents what viruses are doing the rounds in the local area, what the symptoms are and, crucially, how long they last.

Freelance journalism is an insane profession. Monday: rewrote the same sentence 15 times. Tuesday: commissions for two pieces requiring multiple sources and hard-to-find documents, both needing to be filed on Thursday. Wednesday, Thursday: full-blown panic. Friday: playgroup with my three year old.

Why do rich people literally never pay for their own stuff? And how does it work? Like rounds at a pub, where each person takes a turn paying for someone's kid's wedding? Or more like jury duty, where the Billionaire Distribution System randomly calls on you: 'you have been selected, pay up'?

The payments, totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars, represented an extraordinary flouting of ethical norms for an American president’s family member.

When @janesports.bsky.social first started covering high school sports back in 1997, women’s sports were considered niche. In 2026, that's no longer the case.

Women’s Sports Are Thriving. Will Equality Follow?

RIP Dolly, a hero for the infertility community, because she provided an example of what a life without kids can look like. "When I got married and wanted to have children, I couldn't have any. But I didn't miss it. I did for a while, but I realised that I am everybody's mother." 💔

Years and years ago I wrote a big piece for Management Today about the nascent UK space sector. I drove around the country meeting mad professors creating reusable rockets (then regarded as quite nuts) and shoebox-sized satellites. We illustrated it with this great 70s sci-fi artwork.

Printers are finicky because they are portals between a digital world and a physical world which defies all of God's will and should never have been built should never have been built so yet require constant and consistent sacrifice to satisfy the weak bonds that tether the two planes.

I find this stuff about women in midlife struggling to find jobs horrifying. One of the reasons I went freelance was because the endless writing of cover letters and completing of 'exercises' and organising of childcare to attend interviews, only to be ghosted, was too exhausting.
