It’s wild that plant and human structures are patterned in such similar ways. Both have a system where genes are expressed in a spatial sequence, and where those domains are expressed or overlap is where specific parts go. Plants and animals evolved multicellularity independently!🧪
A diagram of flower development showing a cross section of a cartoon flower. Below it are the letters A,B, and C in colored boxes. C is in the center, below the carpal. Where the C and B boxes overlap is below the stamen, meaning both of those domains overlapping is what tells the developing plant cells in that region to become a stamen. Moving further from the center are the petals, below the A and B overlap. on the outside, we have the sepal patterned by the A domain alone. All domains overlap with the E domain.A diagram of a developing human with a rainbow of colors along its back and limbs. Above the figure are four horizontal rows of colored boxes arranged in the same rainbow as on the embryo. The rows are labeled HOXA, HOXB, HOXC, and HOXD. The first genes in each row, hoxa1, hoxb1, etc. correspond to the farthest anterior part of the neck of the embryo, right below the head. The next is the hoxa2, and hoxb2 segment, etc. these genes are in a sequence in the dna that matches with the spatial sequence on the body.
