One thing I find endlessly funny about the rise of AI is that it has revealed that there is a large number of people who believe that the reason they wrote essays at school or university is their teachers were desperately waiting for them to provide a definite answer to “Lear: what’s up with him?”

I have a Bachelor's degree in Linguistics and taught Business Communication at a private college. I grew up with ICQ. I have published poems and short stories. And nothing has brought me to my knees like communicating with my mother and daughter. Utter failure as a human. #bluesky #womensissues #wip

Noticing some folks seem to think writers just say clever things without understanding how the world works, as if we're all naifs who just happen to be good with words instead of people with formal educations and a professional interest verging on requirement in the ability to conduct research

One of the things outsiders don't know about Mennonites is that they identify more as family units than as a monolithic group. So each family decides for themselves what level of strictness they adhere to. So there is a lot of variety within the groups, while from the outside they all look the same.

Finally writing about the M-word. An odd counter culture group that over the past 500 years became a cult, a genetic identity, a system of survival for members. A strange evolution of rules and beliefs that eats away at those within. More to come. #wip emilystmarie.substack.com/p/how-i-foun...

Ink and gray wash comic. A small child in ponytail and tutu presents a snack plate to two stuffies seated at a coffee table while two adults look on from a sofa.

Child: Today's apple juice is sourced from Pomona, New York, and pairs beautifully with our selection of string cheeses. You'll also notice lightly salted crackers, for texture, and a local strawberry jelly spread.

I've taught PERSEPOLIS (book & movie) more times than I can count. Two epic masterpieces, but, more than that, two texts that find their way to young people. I've never had a class that didn't *get* PERSEPOLIS, and that's a miracle of its own. Satrapi's voice and imagination are so alive. RIP.

Three panel comic. Panel 1: a chimpanzee in an enclosure is sitting on the ground and painting abstract streaks of color on a canvas lying in the grass. Panel 2: a couple is standing outside the enclosure, looking in. The girl says about the painting chimpanzee, “aww, that’s cute.” Panel 3: the chimpanzee is alone in his dimly lit studio, head in hands, holding a lit cigarette. He looks completely dejected, feeling misunderstood. There is a pair of glasses, a glass of whisky, crumpled paper, and an unfinished painting laid out on the desk in front of him. The walls and floor space of his studio are covered in his abstract paintings on canvases and paper. There is also a marble sculpture of a banana beside him.

Target readers are 9-14. The previous 3 volumes are full of fantasy/magic/adventure type stories so anything along those lines is a great fit. But music opens it up to thriller, haunted house (creepy music!), entertainment (dance-offs, rap battles, concerts), etc. Use your imagination. Are you in?
